Truly Open Eichler Home in Palo Alto, CA by Klopf Architecture

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Article source: Klopf Architecture

Klopf ArchitectureArterra Landscape Architects and Flegel’s Construction recently completed a beautiful and insightful remodel of a classic Eichler home that I think would be a perfect fit.

I know that this remodel of an iconic mid-century home would be a wonderful renovation feature, because the design team so sensitively addressed the needs of the homeowners and expanded on the original intent of the home.

Casa SG in Catania, Italy by Tuttiarchitetti

Article source: Tuttiarchitetti

THE PROJECT

A building at the ground floor 5 meters wide and 20 long with generous walls of lava stone stands on a shaped core of lava, residue of buildings massive ’70s; only two openings diagonal, north-east towards the gardens of the district, south-west to a glimpse of the city. A prism wooden “hut ” is placed on the lava fragment of the house, rotated 6 degrees and cut on the volume below, carved by two terraces on the diagonal gashes: a gem set between the heroic rears of tall buildings.

Sluzewski Culture Centre in Warsaw, Poland by 307kilo Architects

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Article source: 307kilo Architects

The final form of the Cultural Centre design was determined by two elements: the first, the situation and an urban context of the object, the second, its function defined by the programme. The existing, original cultural centre was also a source of inspiration, together with the adjacent ecological, educational farm and a survived country house at 7 Tarniny Street. The whole programme consists of two, interconnected buildings, however, each of them can function separately. The basic part of the project and the main entrance into the building are placed on -1 level, which is accessed by amphitheatrical staircase from the entrance square. This submerged basin functions as a stage during theatrical, open-air performances. Its warm, wooden flooring looks inviting as a place for playing and relaxing between various activities. At the same time it can be easily disassembled for the maintenance of rain collector passing beneath.

Restaurant and club in Constanta, Romania by Re-Act Now Studio

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Article source: Re-Act Now Studio

The primary theme we received from the client was that of integrating the concept of an architectural object that would function as restaurant and club in the center of Constanta town on a plot neighbouring on one side the central park and on the other side an important transition street. thus the object was supposed to become the “new place” in town. of course neither in our case the architectural object couldn’t dissociate itself from correctly analyzing, among others, the target of the two major functional spaces: the users. the discussions with the beneficiary turned out the users are mostly the same for both functions but partly completely different. so since the plot on the other hand failed to impose additional constraints on the concept, we realized that the mark of the place is the mark of the moment, of the user, of his present and future spirit for cultural expectations… and we were the ones that had to begin imprinting this mark.

EDUCATIONAL PARK in Antioquia, Colombia by Farhid Maya (Taller Síntesis) + Lucas Serna (Taller Síntesis) + Arq. Mauricio Valencia + Arq. Diana Herrera

Friday, March 27th, 2015

Article source: Farhid Maya (Taller Síntesis) + Lucas Serna (Taller Síntesis) + Arq. Mauricio Valencia + Arq. Diana Herrera

Vigia del Fuerte is a municipality in Antioquia on the border with the department of Choco, and separated from Bojaya by the Atrato river. It is located in the southernmost part of the subregion of Urabá in Antioquia Middle Atrato area, which corresponds to the tropical rainforest. It is a town with one of the lowest levels of human and social development in the area, with strong conditions in terms of weather, accessibility, and interconnection, within a region that has been hit in the past by public order problems. Despite this, the municipality has lush vegetation and is renowned for its biodiversity and variety of ecosystems, whose potential for the development of the region is beginning to be tapped. For this reason, the Antioquia government decided to make a major investment in the area to strengthen it, an intervention that due to the very conditions of the site is required to disassemble predisposed schemes and operate in a unique way especially considering the region, which is not replicable in any other place of the national territory.
