Sin El Fil in Beirut, Lebanon by SOMA Architects

Thursday, April 9th, 2015

Article source: SOMA Architects

The three volumes of the mixed use compound are situated in Sin el Fil, Lebanon, near an important junction of highways and major roadways to the East of Beirut. The site also provides panoramic views toward the center of Beirut to the East and to the mountains to the West. In order to take advantage of this unique location, and the panoramic views, the project is conceived as three volumes arrayed about a central focal point in the center of the site. Each volume is in turn chamfered toward the outside, creating terraces toward their respective views, while on the ground floor, the buildings chamfer in, creating impressive cantilevers and freeing up large areas of outdoor space. The building directly along the highway serves as an office tower with a large retail base extending along the highway, while the other two buildings provide apartments. This positioning creates three basic outdoor spaces: one for a public drop odd, one for a private drop off, and a third used as a playground and collective garden space.

Article source: P+0 architecture

We find Narigua House in “El Jonuco” a beautiful place where we enjoy from 360º of spectacular views. This mountain-enclosed neighborhood reminds us of numerous mexican towns where tall mountains limit the valley where its inhabitants settle.

Here, its residents live alongside with the typical vegetation and wildlife found in northern México.

Article source: Kunik de Morsier architectes

It is in the very special geography of the Swiss Jura, near the Lac de Joux (which freezes over in Winter), close to the ski slopes, hiking trails and bike routes where the R. family wished to settle. It is in this very special universe that the architects designed a singular space in response to the location and needs of the family by establishing strong relationships between inner spaces and territory.

Myrto House by Vakis Associates

Thursday, April 9th, 2015

Article source: Vakis Associates

This is an exercise to make this two storey building appear as a single storey by placing the first floor on top of a ground floor stone plinth on the street side, hiding all ground floor activities. At the same time extensive shaded glazing on the garden and pool side is creating a horizontal void directly connecting and unifying the indoors with the outdoors. The combination of the heavy stone base and the continuous glazing makes the curved concrete structure on the first floor appear to be floating. The elevated site has unobstructed views to the Pentedaktylos mountains during the day and the lights of Nicosia town at night. The open space between the guest bedroom and living room creates a sheltered outdoor sitting area with an open fire. The plan is linear and all rooms share the same stunning views.
