Jalan Remis in Singapore by Aamer Architects

The Railway House

As a typology, the semi-detached house is often perceived as a Siamese twin, reluctantly conjoined to its symmetrical other via a single party wall. The desire to challenge such a notion drives the parti of this single-family house. By separating and pulling the main building block away from the party wall, a semi-detached house breaks free.

Friday, June 5th, 2015

Article source: JDArchitects

JDA were commissioned to work with local architects A2Z to design and formulate a master plan for a 9 hectare site in the west area of Dubai city, close to international airport. JDA are responsible for the concept and design brief, with A2Z responsible for local design and technical brief. The completed master plan is 3.5m ft2 of new development and community. 70% of the development is residential apartments and duplex facing the parkland to the east. The central zone has a hotel with serviced apartments, shops and restaurants surrounding a piazza. The site runs east to west and can all be accessed by pedestrian ways through gardens, courtyards and climate controlled zones, with parking and utilities in the basement areas. JDA have designed a modern, sustainable development with local influences taken from traditional Emirate architecture. This includes a mosque, medical centres and nurseries. Mirdif is a gated community with all facilities for living in this harsh environment. Planning consent has been granted by Dubai Municipality. JDA have now embarked on detail design and tender for this project.

Not Whole Fence in Texas by Ball-Nogues Studio

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

Article source: Ball-Nogues Studio

Not Whole Fence pays homage to the simpler days of baseball, of watching the great American past

ime through a wooden fence. Imagine a child, peeking through the knotholes with the impressionable canvas of youth, evoked by a sense of wonder and hope or devoted fans who cannot afford tickets, sneaking glances through small openings with playfully mischievous eyes, excited by the possibility of joyous victory or getting caught.

RAW in Taipei, Taiwan by WEIJENBERG

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

Article source: WEIJENBERG

The conversation between WEIJENBERG and Chef André Chiang (50 Best Restaurant’s) to design a new restaurant in Taipei started late 2013. It quickly became clear that André’s gastronomic vivid imagination combined with WEIJENBERG’s artistic vision would set both on a trajectory to create a restaurant reflecting the visceral and primitive nature of its namesake ‘RAW’.

Torre Tres Picos in Mexico by LBR + A

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

Article source: LBR + A

Situated in one of Mexico City’s most important areas, Tres Picos responds to its urban condition of a complex triangular plot of only 167 square meters enclosed by three streets. Its architectural design consists of two structural steel plate walls supporting a glass prism of 10 levels, thus clearing the floor space of columns. In combination with the thin steel walls, the tridilosa, a three-dimensional structure slab system, made a 7 meter span possible in the glass façade directed towards the Chapultepec Park. The modular steel panels were designed to be an aesthetic finish and to optimize construction by facilitating on-site assembly. The light weight structural system allows for a free floor in the office space and at ground level, primarily benefiting pedestrians.

COURTYARD HOUSE in Bangalore, India by The Purple Ink Studio

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

Article source: The Purple Ink Studio

Design Brief:

The client’s brief saw a strong interest in a “Courtyard House”. Taking the courtyard as a focal point, the entire architecture and the landscape conceptualization revolved around using the feature as a climate responsive design advantage.

The house is conceptualized as a performative architecture and landscape design with a carefully interwoven built-form that strongly responds to the site context.

The East Village in New York by General Assembly

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

Article source: General Assembly

A young couple, relocating from the west coast, hired GA to help renovate a duplex apartment in the East Village. Though the existing space was inefficient and lacking in character, its potential was clear. Our first move was to open the kitchen out to the living room and to rearrange the layout for a more cooking and entertaining friendly environment. Upstairs, we reduced the bedrooms from two to one, enlarged the bathroom, added a laundry area and increased storage space with additional closets. Full height sliding pocket doors improved circulation upstairs and allowed more light in to brighten the halls. We combined modern details with warmer materials like dark flooring and a reclaimed wood wall to keep things comfortable yet clean, bringing a bit of a West Coast vibe into a new East Coast home.

The Project is about the reconstruction of a building located in Lisbon’s historical city centre.

The existing building in an advanced degradation condition and lacking architectural quality was demolished and completely rebuilt, reshaping its compartmentalization, without distorting the memory of the environment in order to preserve the urban heritage of the neighbourhood, but guided by a contemporary intervention that marks the time of its execution.
