THE BLOEMENDAAL TOWN HALL in Netherlands by NEXT architects

Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Article source: NEXT architects

The new Bloemendaal Town Hall opened its doors on 25 June 2015. The realisation of the new town hall is the coping stone of a process set in motion with the ‘uniting’ of the municipalities of Bloemendaal and Bennebroek in January 2009. With these central premises the municipal organisation, which now encompasses the civic centres of Bloemendaal, Overveen, Aerdenhout, Vogelenzang and Bennebroek, has also found its physical expression. One address, one face, one identity.

Article source: YUUA Architects and Associates

Designing the relationship of collectivity and individuality

A cooperative house with eleven dwelling units located in the suburb of western Tokyo. Firstly, skeleton plan was provided to the potential residents. Infill design was developed based on this skeleton frame. Under such scheme, the challenge was to develop the space dynamically through interactivity of the skeleton and infill design instead of simply adjusting the infill design into the skeleton frame.

SCAPE in Montpellier, FRANCE by NAS architecture

Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Article source: NAS architecture

For the 10 years of the Festival of Lively Architecture and in an as exceptional place as the hotel Saint Côme’s courtyard, the biad for the main Pavilion must be thoughtful and contextual . It seemed important to use the differents elements that punctuate the courtyard as a basis for the overall development of the pavilion’s shape. Begining from the ground, the pavilion unfolds in a multitude of random steps that can serve as reading spaces for visitors, rest or stages for the various events that take place during the Festival. The pavilion includes columns that surround it to form a large reception area for the public. Because of its shape and generosity, that interiority intrigue, consisting of a wall set design, this space becomes a place of informations and meetings around the Festival.

“Contemporary residential block in Clerkenwell designed by former Conran Director” in London by Doone Silver Architects

Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Article source: Doone Silver Architects

Located in the heart of Clerkenwell, 63 Compton Street is a four-storey apartment  building, created for Nord Development. Replacing a 2-storey electrical substation,  the scheme adjoins a listed former public house and responds sensitively to the constraints  of a conservation area. From the street, the building ‘reads’ as a 3-storey  structure; the fourth storey is set back from the street, concealed behind a brick  parapet and creating a generous terrace.
