VALDEMAQUEDA TOWN HALL in MADRID, Spain by PAREDES PEDROSA ARQUITECTOS

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Article source: PAREDES PEDROSA ARQUITECTOS

The village is small and the building is of a small scale, with a correspondingly small budget and program that included formal configuration of this square, a transcendental feature of rural Spanish life that the village lacked.

Dual sports hall in Borex-Crassier, Switzerland by Graeme Mann & Patricia Capua Mann architects dipl. epfl fas sia

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Article source: Graeme Mann & Patricia Capua Mann architects dipl. epfl fas sia

The expansion of the existing sports hall is the result of a competition and left little margin of freedom because of a limited perimeter. Due to its position, the new extension reinforces the western boundary with the countryside and takes advantage of the break in terrain in order to reduce the impact of volume on the site. The quest for continuity with the existing building dictates the rules in terms of extension volume. The “fusional” approach adopted towards the existing structure allows to define a single entrance for the three sports halls.

Nikki Beach Resort in Damour, Lebanon by SOMA architects

Tuesday, July 7th, 2015

Article source: SOMA architects

Responding to strong and specific data, our proposal for this project purposefully takes into consideration the cultural heritage in which it is set. Situated at terminus of the Damour River, the site is a gently sloping terrain with stupendous views of the Mediterranean and the river. Our proposal utilizes a radical system that is found in several natural formations: a branching configuration. It seemed like the natural solution to gently break down the site’s slope into a series of volumes perfectly oriented to the key sea and river views without obstruction from other buildings. Each “branch” allows direct street access, both pedestrian and vehicular, and soon individual volumes start to emerge following a rigorous strategy of sitting, form and placement in relation to external context, program requirements, and maximized privacy.

Nikken Space Design Osaka Office in Japan

Sunday, July 5th, 2015

Article source: NIKKEN SPACE DESIGN LTD

More than just creative
This is an in-house office plan of our design office. Approximately 30 staff members working in our office, which is located in the central part of Japan’s second largest city of Osaka, are engaged in the interior designing of a wide range of facilities in the public and private sectors, such as government agencies and company offices as well as hotels, hospitals, and educational institutions. Our new office needs to be a place ensuring more creativeness and higher productivity than others do, and we had to understand the nature of the staff members when we launched the office. Our staff members consist of professionals, including designers, computer graphic (CG) renders, and computer-aided design (CAD) operators. Each of the staff members belonging to the office is respected as an independent talented creator. Therefore, unlike typical enterprises, the office is of very flat organizational structure. Usually, each team of four to five members assigned promotes a separate project, and the team members are strongly aware of their organic ties. Therefore, we noticed at an early designing stage of the office that a fixed desk layout was not suitable to our style. As described above, the office produces value that it can provide to society from the character and talent of each individual designer. From this perspective, there was an opinion that the idea of making a highly uniformed workspace did not fit the staff members. Accordingly, how to achieve a creative place, where the character of each individual was respected and the organic connections of the individuals could be managed at a high degree of freedom, became the biggest theme of this project.

Now construction has started for the new tower. On the journey from Vienna’s airport to the city centre there is no avoiding the urban-development project TownTown, where the new tower is located. Due to its prime position, the new high rise will be a welcoming sight to a large proportion of people arriving in Vienna by plane.

House in Blair Atholl, South Africa by Nico Van Der Meulen Architects

Sunday, July 5th, 2015

Article source: Nico Van Der Meulen Architects

The double volume entrance hall completely surrounded by glass, draws you in as it’s bordered by two double garages on either side. The symmetry of the timber wrapped garages highlights the transparency of the house as views of the garden captivate you even before you have entered. Enveloped in natural wood, the garage doors disappear into a timber wall paying tribute to Werner’s ability to transform the everyday ordinary into an extra ordinary design feature.
