Article source: YUUA Architects and Associates

Designing the relationship of collectivity and individuality

A cooperative house with eleven dwelling units located in the suburb of western Tokyo. Firstly, skeleton plan was provided to the potential residents. Infill design was developed based on this skeleton frame. Under such scheme, the challenge was to develop the space dynamically through interactivity of the skeleton and infill design instead of simply adjusting the infill design into the skeleton frame.

SCAPE in Montpellier, FRANCE by NAS architecture

Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Article source: NAS architecture

For the 10 years of the Festival of Lively Architecture and in an as exceptional place as the hotel Saint Côme’s courtyard, the biad for the main Pavilion must be thoughtful and contextual . It seemed important to use the differents elements that punctuate the courtyard as a basis for the overall development of the pavilion’s shape. Begining from the ground, the pavilion unfolds in a multitude of random steps that can serve as reading spaces for visitors, rest or stages for the various events that take place during the Festival. The pavilion includes columns that surround it to form a large reception area for the public. Because of its shape and generosity, that interiority intrigue, consisting of a wall set design, this space becomes a place of informations and meetings around the Festival.

“Contemporary residential block in Clerkenwell designed by former Conran Director” in London by Doone Silver Architects

Sunday, July 19th, 2015

Article source: Doone Silver Architects

Located in the heart of Clerkenwell, 63 Compton Street is a four-storey apartment  building, created for Nord Development. Replacing a 2-storey electrical substation,  the scheme adjoins a listed former public house and responds sensitively to the constraints  of a conservation area. From the street, the building ‘reads’ as a 3-storey  structure; the fourth storey is set back from the street, concealed behind a brick  parapet and creating a generous terrace.

Magnolia Remodel in Seattle, Washington by SHED Architecture & Design

Friday, July 17th, 2015

Article source: SHED Architecture & Design

The owners saw potential in this 1914 craftsman home when they bought it in 2013. The Seattle family had the intention of restoring the home’s original details while also making modern modifications to the traditional layout on the main floor. Influenced by years of living in Japan, the clients wanted a clean and simple aesthetic to suit their minimal lifestyle. The central challenge for SHED Architecture & Design was to rework the floor plan to improve the primary flow of the space. The firm made modifications to the main floor to create a feeling of continuity from the entryway to the backyard while remaining sympathetic to the structure’s native form. The Seattlebased architecture firm manipulated and built upon existing geometry to subtly introduce a new kitchen, bath, laundry and outdoor space that compliment the home’s original bay windows, angled walls and oak floors.

WIESE in Stockerau, Lower Austria by synn architekten ZT-OG

Friday, July 17th, 2015

Article source: synn architekten ZT-OG

Balancing the efficient use of land with private parking needs requires creativeness and a new way of thinking. The ideal solution was found by providing capacity under the houses, claiming more space for outdoor activities and gardens while creating a pleasant living environment. The existing topography provided the ideal location for five refined spilt-level townhouses in a beautifully situated prominent area in Stockerau. An inclining interior wall acts as a divide between each dwelling; and the feature is mirrored once more in the street level view. The parking area leads comfortably down to the kitchen/dining area and smoothly flows up towards the bedroom area. Situated in the southern corner, two semi-detached properties are formed from a crystal-shaped exterior. Each property comes complete with private gardens.
