Sunday, August 30th, 2015

Article source: Acton Ostry Architects

At the heart of the University of British Columbia Point Grey campus, two wings of the aging Biological Sciences complex have been completely transformed and renewed through an innovative approach taken by the owner, architect, consultants and contractor that saw the South Wing, which dates from 1957, and the West Wing which dates from 1970 and faces Main Mall, being fast-tracked through design and double-shift construction in only 19 months to meet an extremely aggressive federal stimulus funding deadline.

West Berkeley Public Library in California by Harley Ellis Devereaux

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

Article source: Harley Ellis Devereaux

The City of Berkeley sought to construct a library that would both serve as a model for sustainable design as well as a community hub for its culturally diverse neighborhood. With the existing library spatially out of date for contemporary requirements and future adaptability, the design team recommended the construction of a new zero net energy (ZNE) structure. Extensive study had revealed the embodied energy required to construct a new ZNE facility would be offset by the ongoing cost of maintaining the existing structure within one year’s time.

Departamento Roma Oaxaca in Mexico by Germán Velasco Arquitectos

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

Article source: Germán Velasco Arquitectos

A reorganization of the program of this apartment was done to make the most of the double height and large window of the living dining room and changing the second one to another area to have a more ample entertaining space. The great wall that marks the entrance was left in white and four pieces of the ancient lattice of the perimeter wall of the former UDLA in Mexico City — very close by— were hanged on it. The geometry of the pieces, the grand window and the staircase take advantage of the space and welcome into a more intimate area filled with texture and color where the sitting area was located made of a careful selection of lounge chairs and original pieces.

GLEBE HOUSE in Sydney, Australia by CHARLES ALEXÍOU INTERIOR DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

Article source: CHARLES ALEXÍOU INTERIOR DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE

This charming late 1800s Victorian terrace is located in the inner western suburb of Glebe, Sydney.

The househad been neglected and was crumbling and in desperate need of some tender loving care.  It was dark and cold with rising damn and structurally not sound.  However, for our client, it was love at first sight.  Sheinstantly fell in love with it and bought it.

The new owners, which we affectionately referred to as the “Brady Bunch”, have 6 (six) children between them and planned to live there.
