Article source: Two in a Box Architekten

June 2015. This year’s Upper Austrian Garden Show in Bad Ischl goes under the motto “The Emperor’s New Gardens”. Also the music pavilion inaugurated in May presents itself in a brand new outfit planned by the TWO IN A BOX architects (Ottensheim, Upper Austria). Having won a competition in 2013 and following a brief, intense planning phase, the Music Pavilion was erected in the summer of 2014 on the premises of the Spa Gardens (Kurpark) in the imperial city. For years both general managers Christian Stummer and Andreas Fiereder have been dealing with aspects of modern timber construction and all the efforts have paid off resulting in this extraordinary project.

Šmartno Timeshare Kindergarten in Šmartno pri Slovenj Gradcu, Slovenia by Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

Friday, November 27th, 2015

Article source: Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

The Šmartno Timeshare Kindergarten was designed to encourage interaction, peer learning and self-learning. It has an open floor plan, which merges poorly used spaces such as wardrobes, corridors and stairs into one learning landscape together with playrooms; opening the playrooms’ wholly-glazed inner walls creates as much as 700 m2 of unlimited play area.

Original Life Market in Beijing, China by Latitude Studio S.L.

Friday, November 27th, 2015

Article source: Latitude Studio S.L.

How does our design can function as a catalyst to merge people‘s shopping experience into the pleasure of a healthy lifestyle?

An organic market is not simply an ordinary place to purchase food. It is a place where you go to seek out products that reflect the taste and feel of nature. With this in mind, our goal is to design every part of the market based on the principle of flexibility, adapting every decision to the nuanced demands of each kind of food and product. Thus, the experience of purchasing daily goods becomes more than a routine, it becomes an experience wherein the customer perceives the essence of the products sold in this kind of place.

Srygley Pool House in Springdale, Arkansas by Marlon Blackwell Architects

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Article source: Marlon Blackwell Architects

The Srygley Pool House is located within a suburban neighborhood that offers little variation from the typical single-family house model.  The simple form of the building strikes a bold pose within this landscape.  The pool house is wrapped in subdued cedar siding, allowing the seemingly foreign form to coexist with the surrounding brick and cedar residences.

Back of the Yards High School in Chicago, Illinois by STL Architects

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Article source: STL Architects

This urban high school is organized into three thematic components: body, mind and spirit, that relate to the various programs and activities within the school that compose the curriculum. The site is zoned according to these thematic areas and bars are created, housing the athletics (body), the academy classrooms and teaching spaces (mind), and the library, arts and music (spirit). The bars slide against each other to create outdoor spaces on the site, programmed for specific activities that work in conjunction with the buildings—entry courtyard, athletics fields, and reading garden. The three volumes (body, mind, and spirit) that comprise the school are created by one continuous wall that snakes back and forth through the site.

Columbus Museum of Art Expansion and Renovation in Ohio by DesignGroup

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Article source: DesignGroup

Under the design leadership of DesignGroup principal Michael Bongiorno, AIA, the museum design team has developed a bold and novel design strategy. DesignGroup asked provocative questions of CMA about both the relationship of the museum to contemporary culture and the museum’s physical relationship to the city and its citizens. From those questions, the design evolved out of our deep understanding of the particularities of the site, the imperatives of the programmatic relationships, and the redefinition of the museum’s relationship to its physical and social context. The building design, then, is a reflection of the museum’s ambition to be more visible, relevant, and connected to the community as a meeting point between art, the public and the physical city.
