Article source: Archaeus Architecture studio

We had a vague idea about what it meant accepting the challenge to design a shelter at 2,100 m within a restricted budget,  especially since we asked to build it ourselves, based on the 10 year experience of workshops with students at Sky Hill workshop platform.

Cultural Center ‘El Soto’ Renovation in Móstoles, Spain by De Lapuerta y Asensio Arquitectos

Wednesday, February 24th, 2016

Article source: De Lapuerta y Asensio Arquitectos

In “El Soto” we had to reinvent the commission.

Initially, the task was to develop a basic project, already approved by the City to renew an existing Cultural Centre, which was a focus of activity and tradition in the neighborhood. The challenge was to get as much as possible, with a very limited budget in times of austerity, and with the premise of preserving the existing building.

Osteria Savio Volpe in Vancouver, BC , Canada by S T E . M A R I E ART + DESIGN

Wednesday, February 24th, 2016

Article source: S T E . M A R I E  ART + DESIGN

The restaurant is a synthesis of what we call Italian Farmhouse Modern. The design was strongly inspired by three icons of Italian design: Carlo Mollino, Bruno Munari, and Enzo Mari. The result is a balance of simplicity, drama, and irreverence. The finishes are rooted in an earthy quality much like most roadside Osteria’s or country Trattorias found throughout Italy. In that same vein, the food, wine, products, herbs, and preserves are given as much focus as the paintings on the walls. An ongoing interplay between assertive and simple, elemental and modernist is a mainstay of Italian culture. We tried to capture that quintessential Italian juxtaposition by running the theme of humble vs pretty throughout the design. The mix of sconces with fabric lampshades and opaline glass highlight the apposing influence of modernist and “nonna” style in our lighting design. A similar exchange can be seen in the pleated oak walls that act as a modest rhythmic backdrop from which the mix of sartorial banquet seating stansout. As a nod to a simpler time, we keep a courtesy phone at the ready for those who require a lift home after dinner and packing away a Demi John of wine with friends and family.

The new library is to be the central library combining from 6 different buildings throughout the city. Its purposeful development will bring extensive services to visitors in the center of Varna.

The current design site has its unique building boundary. Especially, the height limit for right to sunshine to the neighbors creates the interesting form by its slope on the roof area. The boundaries are a pre-made form of architecture. It is weather friendly for the seasons of rain and snow by its natural form. To respect this condition has very much necessitated into our design process.
