Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: FELD ARCHITECTURE

Extension of a seaside villa from the early 1900s.

The new structure offers unique qualities of volume, light and openness which were absent from the existing house.

The main volume is designed as a single object, all clad in zinc shingles which were handcrafted to order. Construction detailing and execution was carried out with infinite care.

Article source: Marta Badiola Ramos

The project is a full refurbishment of a duplex in Madrid’s city center that will host a family expecting its third child and whose needs will change drastically along the next years. For that reason, the house is designed as an unfinished space, which will be modified and adapted to respond to the life changes of its inhabitants.

House Stein in Druxberge, Germany by Jan Rösler Architekten

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: Jan Rösler Architekten

“Haus Stein” is the result of the conversion of an unused barn from the 1930’s into a holiday home. The particular character of the barn in its rural setting was preserved through minimal interventions on its outer shell. In the absence of its users, the building’s new function remains concealed. It is only when the wooden shutters and doors are open that the striking contrast between a clean and rigorous inner organisation and the raw facades reveals the new purpose of the building.

La Source in Le Bouscat, France by atelier d’architecture King Kong

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: atelier d’architecture King Kong

The new building and its function are immediately intelligible as one approaches from Rue Emile Zola, thanks to clear signage positioned on the east façade, while the main entrance is situated on Rue Formigé, thereby creating a direct connection with the bus stop opposite. The building’s accessibility via public transport and its inherent eco-mobility is therefore clearly brought to the fore and visually underscored.

Lantern Ridge House in Kerhonkson, New York by Studio MM Architect

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: Studio MM Architect

Perched at the top of a wooded knoll in the Hudson Valley, the Lantern Ridge House accentuates mountain views while camouflaging itself in the densely forested environment. At night, the typically obscured house becomes a beacon for passing cars and a guiding light for our homeward-bound clients. The home is focused on a single gathering space through which the 2,200 SF structure becomes at once intimate and expansive, private and public. Oriented to face both sunrise and sunset, this hinge point is created by the convergence of two private wings that contain separated accommodations for our clients and their guests. A continuous wood ceiling shelters an exterior deck and the glass façade, which focuses expansive views, connects the clients with the immediate natural environment, and provides a consistently sunlit space.

AB apartment in Milan, Italy by DUEDIQUATTRO

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

Article source: DUEDIQUATTRO

The apartment, located inside a charming early 20th-century building, was completely redesigned in order to better respond to the occupants’ needs, without altering its « retro appeal ». The project therefore mixes a vintage decor with contemporary furniture and 20th century design pieces. The kitchen furniture and the cupboards were custom-designed. The beautiful original windows and wooden floor were kept and restored; in the bathrooms and in the kitchen, instead, the floor and wall tiles, which had been previusly replaced, were changed. In the living room, the elaborated coffered ceiling was restored and repainted; the walls were painted dark green, a strong color which enhances the original decoration and the character of this room.
