Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

Article source: INUCE

Intact nature: After three decades of accelerated urbanization, most cities in China are tormented by thick clouds of smog and the stench of polluted rivers. Not so Fuzhou: Enclosed by intact forests and infused with parks and green belts, the capital of Fujian Province maintains the best air quality amongst all major cities in the country. The water quality of the city’s Min River is good, allowing citizens to refresh themselves in its cool floods during summer.

133 Wai Yip Street in Hong Kong, China by MVRDV

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

Article source: MVRDV

MVRDV have opened the 133 Wai Yip Street in Hong Kong. An office transformation, with retail and restaurants, which strips an old industrial building down to its bare bones and uses only glass with stainless steel infill to build up the interior spaces. The 18.000m2  project, located on the Kwun Tong waterfront is part of a larger urban development scheme which aims to turn the post-industrial district of East Kowloon into Hong Kong’s new central business district (named CBD2). An entirely see-through office stands as an example to the goals of the project to give ultimate transparency within the workplace. The project was commissioned in 2013 by project developer GAW Capital and now stands as one of the flagship projects for the new business development, becoming the bridge between the neighbourhood’s industrial roots and it’s metropolitan future.

Hotel pupp in Bressanone Bolzano, Italy by Bergmeisterwolf Architekten

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

Article source: Bergmeisterwolf architekten

The hotel is located at an intersection of the city, an intersection of interior and exterior, tradition and modernism. the features and characteristics of the city were incorporated into the design. the idea was to segment a compact structure floor by floor in order to let enough light in. courtyards of light become an element that is played with. the floors were shifted horizontally, so as to achieve an open and yet compact structure. space is split up into drawers; mirroring the old town’s vertical sectors, here horizontally. the façade is unbroken – solely two windows to the city offer a glimpse of the space on the interior, which is projected outwards, generating public space. the protrusions appear to be oriels, eversions of the façade. light comes in through the courtyards, halls, rooms, and open spaces; well-lit intimacy.

The plot is sited on one of the five Kharkiv hills among low-rise development with village-like parceling and scarce apartment houses that emerged here at the turn of the xix-xx centuries. It is located right in front of the central hill, with a railroad running along the valley between the hills. The place enjoys a generous view of the city centre, as well as the nearby church.

Temasek Club in Singapore by DP Architects

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016

Article source: DP Architects

Sited on the pristine greenery adjacent to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and spanning 21,000 square metres, the Temasek Club was purposed as a sanctuary for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regulars, Full-time National Service and National Service officers to relax within the natural surrounds. DP Architects (DPA) won the design competition held by Temasek Club on the basis of its merits: chiefly, it was the only scheme that sought to conceal the volume of the club buildings by ingeniously tucking the mass within a natural valley in the terrain. The terrain was cleverly employed as a cradle for the built massing; from the main entrance court, the club appears as a single-storey building. Sensitive site-planning ensured that views of the nature reserve remain unspoilt from the main road.

Article source: ARQUITECTURIA

The Museum of Energy is located at the surroundings of Ascó, next to the river Ebro. The museum swings between public and private, between the river and the topography and between the urban grid and landscape. Because of this, one of the aims of the project was to reconfigure the site understanding its BOUNDARY condition.
