Villa Sunnano in Sweden by Murman Arkitekter

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: Murman Arkitekter

The brief was to design a family house on a north facing triangular promontory, overgrown with pine and blueberry bushes, covered with large boulders. The first sketches were made in 2010 and were put on hold until 2013. The project was completed in 2015.

Connected with the water front in all directions; except on one side, due to the risk of flooding.

We wanted to take advantage of the site’s unique conditions and make a dwelling with maximum contact with the surrounding nature and water but with respect to privacy.

The Barn House in Diamond Point, New York by Sigurd Larsen Design & Architecture

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: Sigurd Larsen Design & Architecture

The idea of working with repeated motives of a barn gable is inspired by the American painters Charles Sheeler and Andrew Wyeth. Sculptural monoliths of barns are orientated according to the sloping landscapes giving interesting compositions where many volumes in various directions can be seen as a layered additive structure.

New Aarch – Architecture School of Aarhus in Denmark by Cheungvogl

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: Cheungvogl

Hong Kong based architecture studio Cheungvogl has designed NEW AARCH, the New Architecture School of Aarhus as a two-storey building that provides active workshops and public exhibitions on the ground level. The upper level accommodates theoretical work and quiet reading and working areas.

The NEW AARCH reuses the existing buildings as a new social hub to connect the public with the school over food, exhibitions and events. The design integrates the existing buildings and offers them a new lease of life by transforming the former Institut for (X) and the northern buildings into cafes, bookstore and meeting spaces. The existing buildings intersect with the public central exhibition spaces of the NEW AARCH, forming a new cultural and social center that connects the public life of the campus with the Godsbanen.

Olympic Shooting Sport Centre RIO2016 in Brazil by Vigliecca & Associados

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: Vigliecca & Associados

The National Shooting Centre was built for the Pan American Games in 2007. The built has been renovated by Vigliecca & Associados to meet Olympic standards without changing the identity of the original structure.

Although it is a recent construction, the building had to attend more specific standards established by the International Shooting Sport Federation and also needed maintenance upgrades for the target system as well as the air conditioning, hydraulic and electrical systems.

The project focused on meeting Olympic requirements, which included three times more seating capacity as well as making sure it would be useful after the Olympics once left as a legacy.

LEBENsuhr Zopfmatte residential complex in Switzerland by fsp Architekten AG

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: fsp Architekten AG

The Zopfmatte residential complex aims to help and encourage residents to live independently in their own homes, whilst meeting their needs in every stage of life. The Zopfmatte housing concept demonstrates a forward-looking understanding of living arrangements for the elderly. In Suhr, the political, social and individual independence sought by (very) elderly residents is construed as assisted independence. The necessary occupational and organisational structures have been consistently integrated into the project. An on-site contact team is available to residents on a daily basis. Interfaces to the community are in place. The contact team plays a key role in the Zopfmatte operating concept. It consists of a contact person and a caretaker with additional responsibilities. Together they take care of the service office for the complex. Their main task is to help residents achieve independence, to provide them with information and to offer organisational advice if necessary, for example in their dealings with authorities and official bodies. Administrative operations in Zopfmatte are financed by the tenants and apartment owners by means of a flat-rate solidarity fee. Based on these conditions, \”Ageing in Place\” is achieved.

The Lexicon in Shanghai, China by MA2

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: MA2

The conceptual design for shanghai is a theoretical exercise in thematic processes, an investigation into architectural language as a lexical device governed by thematic parameters and syntactical structures. The lexicon is rather a series of architectural devices and tectonics composed as an interface for a subject and object experiencer. These tectonics thread through an arrangement of digital art and light sculptures as a syntax of meaning and definition to the overarching architecture. The correlation between lexical properties and syntactic structures are modes of operation in which the architecture emerges. Meaning and experience are not limited by surface and material association; but when art and technology are introduced, the system of thematic structure becomes visible in its lexical and syntax relationship. The art work in the form of digital projection, light sculpture, and diverse mediums perform as aspectual properties, unlike the thematic tectonic shapes and form. They become interface entities; these entities are mediators between spaces and the architectural body. The subject experiencer correlates the differences in the art and tectonic expression, but the event in which these entities project are undefined allowing emergence in activity to develop and operate.

Dancing Towers in Moscow, Russia by Studio AD.a

Thursday, August 11th, 2016

Article source: Studio AD.a

Two couple meet on the notes of a paceful music and start to dance, swirling on the Contrappunto. This suggestion was our focus during the design phase of pair of towers, completing the Contrappunto design. The primal and secondary melody keep going in the lower building, while the continuous bass wraps the couples, becoming the core of their dance. Each tower is divided in three segments: the male, strong and materic, the woman, covered in lace and the music, a wooden brise soleil in continuity with the basement of the project.
