Article source: Steven Holl Architects

The 400sf Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle shop is an abstract insertion into the historic fabric of Greenwich Village. It is envisioned as an integral material/spatial whole.

An imagined geometry for olfaction, a slipped disk characterizes the facade, the main cabinetry, the furniture, and the secret garden beyond.

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Article source: Cambiums Architecte

The structure incorporates motifs from the vernacular architecture of this part of the Jura. A simple rectangular volume covered by a pitched roof is set perpendicular to the contours of the terrain and the prevailing wind. Exploiting the site’s topography and history, the basement is built into the hollow of a small disused quarry. This buried level houses utility rooms and garages accessed via a gentle ramp from the road to the north.

Huynh Residence in Cedar Hill, Texas by Norman D. Ward architect

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Article source: Norman D. Ward architect

From the street the house appears to be three, single-story connected buildings that suggest a compound. The exterior surfaces of the units are different materials and colors accentuating the tripartite design. The main volume that faces the street and houses the public areas is clad in Leuders limestone, the others in stucco, one painted cream, the other left the natural gray with a sealer. The three units are staggered and offset by 10-feet, but are unified by a standing seam metal roof. A black cypress screen sets off the front door.

Container Stack Pavilion in Taiyuan, Shanxi by People’s Architecture Office

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Article source: People’s Architecture Office

Shipping containers stacked and shifted in plan and layered in elevation maximize rooftop views and shaded public areas on the ground at the Container Stack Pavilion. A 7.5 meter cantilevered box is the point of entrance to the building’s upper level roof, while the pavilion itself seems to extend out toward bordering streets, showcasing its interior activities. The ends of each container are capped with full height windows, allowing sightlines throughout the entire building. Inside, a double height central atrium is carved out where the two levels of shipping containers overlap. The Container Stack Pavilion is a temporary structure that can be disassembled and moved to other locations.
