Housing Borneo island in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by Marlies Rohmer Architects & Urbanists

Sunday, September 18th, 2016

Article source: Marlies Rohmer Architects & Urbanists

Urban design In the Eastern Harbor Area, next to the KNSM and Java island lie Borneo and Sporenburg islands. West 8 (Adriaan Geuze) has created a very inspiring urban plan. The question for West 8 was how to create a water-city along the kilometers of 19th century harbor cays. West 8 did not solve this problem by attempting to subdue the scale with huge blocks, such as Jo Coenen has done on the KNSM island, nor by trying to reduce the scale by creating cross-canals, such as Sjoerd Soeters, but by repetition of a small scale.

The Roman Walls of Lugo Elevator in Galicia, Spain by Pernas Varela Arquitectos

Sunday, September 18th, 2016

Article source: Pernas Varela Arquitectos

PREVIOUS STATE

The Roman Walls of Lugo, built between the late third century and early fourth century A.D, is the only complete roman fortification that is preserved in the world, and therefore, one of the most important monument of the Iberian Peninsula. The Roman Wall and the Historic Center of the walled enclosure have the highest level of patrimonial protection in Galicia and was declared in November 2000 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The plot of the intervention is located inside the walls, next to the entrance to the public gardens of the council building. The plot has two main entrances, one from the inner round of the wall [still incomplete] by the West, and the second, through the Romans Lane, which communicates with San Marcos street, on the South. In the target area, the wall has a lower height than in the rest of its route. The Romans Lane, which connects the gardens with San Marcos street, serves the Council buildings and the National Insurance Institute, and has a secondary character in the old town scene. On the street there is already a communications tower of strong vertical component and great height. Also, the views from the street are altered by the distant vision of the party wall of a building located in the outer round. On the east side, from the parapet of the wall and inside the garden of the council, the large sized magnolias existing work as a screen minimizing the visual impact of the new element.

CAPABILITY TO RESPOND

During the emergency process for commissioning new Courthouses, as part of the restructuring of the Judicial System defined by the National Government of Ecuador, the consulting company Hospiplan is invited to participate in the design of new buildings that would ¨guarantee all citizens an opportune, efficient and quality access to justice¨. This emergency commissioning implied the radical reduction of time allocated for the development of the projects, and a necessary reorganization of the processes normally followed.

Sorrento House 1 in Victoria, Australia by Vibe Design Group

Sunday, September 18th, 2016

Article source: Vibe Design Group

Sorrento House 1, the latest coastal project from Vibe Design Group, is the Australian Beach house reborn. The building presents a modest, yet sinuous face to passers by. A well-honed palette of materials is introduced, their application modulated masterfully and subtly; the mark of an experienced hand. Timber battening twists to become shuttering for windows behind. A cast concrete wall articulates the point of entry. A low-slung, angular roof constructed from 18m sheets of custom Colorbond is punctuated by a cast concrete chimney; stylish protection from any seaward weather.

Port Melbourne Football Club Sporting and Community Facility in Victoria, Australia by k20 Architecture

Friday, September 16th, 2016

Article source: k20 Architecture

Port Melbourne Football Club (PMFC) has a proud history spanning 140 years, which makes it one of the oldest sporting clubs in Australia.

Completed in 2015, the new facility stands at the edge of the playing pitch, taking advantage of the elevated aspect of the site. This elevation and siting is natural, and allows a corporate, ‘private style’ approach to be incorporated into the design and function of the building that ensures a direct line of sight of the game on the field. The project focus was to deliver a new typology in sporting and community facility design that would enable the cultural and financial success of the club.

A large Berlin block of flats in Bötzow district, built in 1905, with a representative front building, side wing and rear wing was extensively refurbished in a partially inhabited state.

The originally rich stucco facade of the front building had mostly dropped off and the remaining elements were irredeemably dilapidated.
