Tuesday, September 27th, 2016

Article source: Picharchitects

The Project consists on a set of semi-detached houses located on the edge of the city of Barcelona, bordering Collserola’s natural area.

Three challenges backbone the proposal on the one hand the need for a formal dialogue with an existing house, on the other its integration with the surrounding green space and finally the possibility of incorporating passive and active systems that advance the building`s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter

The Norwegian Mountaineering Center is anchored in an innovative interpretation of nature’s fantastic dimensions and the dramatic experience of mountaineering. The design of the building is based on its function as a mountaineering center and gathering place for both locals and visitors. This provides the structure with a characteristic volume communicating its contents with exciting and unique geometrical expression. Its outer skin is clad in a uniform surface, highlighting its originality and situation next to the train tracks of Raumabanen and the station area in the Åndalsnes town center.

The European Council and Council of the European Union in Brussels, Belgium by Philippe SAMYN and PARTNERS architects & engineers

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: Philippe SAMYN and PARTNERS architects & engineers

As a consequence of 2004 European enlargement, the Justus Lipsius building becomes too small for the council of the European1 (hereafter named the Council). According to the treaty of Nice, adopted in 2001, all European Council2 sessions are held in Brussels, which also generates new real estate needs. In order to respond to those, the Belgian State offered the Council to cede block A from the complex “Residence Palace” to make it the future seat of both the European Council and the Council, once this building renovated and adapted to its future owners’ needs.

Utive Refuge in Panama by JiA-Jose Isturain Architecture

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: JiA-Jose Isturain Architecture

The project sits on the hills of Utive in eastern Panama.

The basic dwelling was designed for a young couple in need of a retreat from the crowded city of Panama. We focused our efforts on creating ways of taking the most advantage of the site’s scenic potential and natural conditions. Such explorations defined the building envelope and the main section of the roof, where natural conditions impose their presence. The three sections of the façade describe the three basic functions that occur inside—living, eating and sleeping, with this last section been slightly twisted on the horizontal plane, so private functions can be isolated from the public areas. The distortion of a pure volume also suggests certain circumstances such as the direction of the contour lines and the presence of some trees.

The newly build multifunctional accommodation (MFA) Zichtwei is the closing piece of the education campus in Barendrecht (just South of Rotterdam). The term MFA is commonly used in The Netherlands for a combination of occupants sharing one multi-functional building. In the MFA Zichtwei two schools are sharing the available class rooms, a sports hall is included and a youth center occupies offices and an event space. The sports hall is daily occupied by the school and can also be used by neighborhood associations during evenings as a separate entrance is designed.

Lilla Alby school in Sundbyberg, Sweden by Marge Arkitekter

Saturday, September 24th, 2016

Article source: Marge Arkitekter

As an addition to an existing school built in 1968 this extension has been designed to accommodate 180 students in elementary and middle school in addition to the previous 240 and provide new classrooms, staff areas, a cafeteria and a library. An important task in the layout of the whole school complex was to release as much space as possible for play and green areas in the school yard. In order to do so, the extension is divided into a slender five story brick building with a tight footprint aligned with the street, and another lighter volume that links the old and the new school building together.
