Panel House in Venice, California by David Hertz FAJA & The Studio of Environmental Architecture

June 23rd, 2017 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: David Hertz FAJA & The Studio of Environmental Architecture

The house is located on 28 x 89 foot lot on the Ocean Front Walk in Venice Beach. Due to the lots’ long and narrow dimensions, the design intent is to create a series of angled walls and reveals in the side elevations in order to provide for view corridors down the side yards to the ocean. The space between the tapered walls is used for pivot windows, which allow for the modulation of the natural prevailing breezes through the house.

House DWG in Meise, Belgium by UAU collectiv

June 23rd, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: UAU collectiv

A landscape fit for daydreaming provides the incentive to design a building with a serene impression. Unity in form and materialisation are characteristic for the basic volume that is designed over 2 levels by means of cuboid shaped volumes. Different integrated patios search for a contact between interior and exterior. Further, the ground floor volume is conceived more largely and shifted in relation to the upper floor in order to create an interesting outdoor area, awnings and terraces. The house has a strong horizontal appearance because of the play of meeting points between “floating” volumes and walls that are continued from inside to outside.

Ancona School Gymnasium in Illinois by JGMA

June 23rd, 2017 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: JGMA

Within the constraints of an otherwise non-descript box, design studio JGMA has inventively designed an attractive and engaging transformation that provides a constrained space with multi-functional capacity, while reinforcing the identity of a visionary school. Working on a small renovation budget, the Ancona School in Chicago’s southside Hyde Park had been fighting loud reverberating acoustics and harsh lighting in their undersized gymnasium, making use of the space nearly unbearable. The room is much smaller than any typical gym–a retro-fit holdover from an out-dated 1960’s construction–but it houses many of the school’s primary athletic functions and is the only school space large enough for family gatherings and school performances.

Sarajevo is a longitudinal city, with heterogeneous architecture, surrounded by mountains that have hosted the Winter Olympics in 1984. Alongside the coffee house cult, ubiquitous in public space, there is a tradition of recreation on the surrounding mountains – \”the lungs of the city\”. Ten minutes by car from the city center, Hotel Pino is situated on the slopes of Mount Trebević on 1070 m altitude, built on the ruins of Sarajevo’s favorite hiking resort – Prvi Šumar (in English: First Forester).
