Museum of Polish History in Warsaw, Poland by Zerafa Architecture Studio

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

Article source: Zerafa Architecture Studio

The challenge of creating a new Museum of Polish History today involves considering the historical relationship between a National identity, collective memory and a culture’s traditions within a modern global context.  The design of the museum and the crafting of a user experience that communicates an essential spirit of Polish Identity and is also meaningful to visitors from around the world represent a universal challenge of our time. We believe the solution lies within the power of history to illuminate, teach and improve relationships through the celebration of ideas and human aspirations. The collective memory of a Nation is quite often defined by those memories enshrined in national monuments and in particular, those not publically memorialized.  The idea of a “collected memory”, one that is inherently fragmented and individual in character in relation to “collective psychology” that represents a group’s common ideas and aspirations is the starting point for our design.

Eco-Sustainable House in Paris, France by Djuric Tardio Architectes

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Article source: Djuric Tardio Architectes

The new project has been realized in a neighborhood, Antony, that is an example of the belief that architecture, whether heterogeneous and homogeneous, is shaped by outdated zoning regulations. The delays in securing permits, along with conditions of the urban situation and our desire to continue and refine our own research on wood constructions, led us to propose a type of construction system. This type is still not released in urban areas and rather reserved for detached houses in less dense sites. The urban rules and the site context, which is very typical, have suggested the template, which has proved a real asset to the project.

In order to emphasize the public nature of the art center, the project presents itself as a series of cuts of an original spherical volume that are tilted to allow pedestrians to cross freely through the public space upon which the building sits. House 101 in Barcelona, Spain by H Arquitectes

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Article source: H Arquitectes

Even though the regulations allowed to build ground floor and two floors, the first great decision was to compact the program in two only floors. Thus, the zone shares the ground floor by day with the parking lot that incorporates into the functional program of the house. The second decision was to place the main courtyard in the corner in such a way that the relationship between the living room and the kitchen is produced throw it.. The program of rooms concentrates in the upper floor where one turns up another courtyard that, together with the skylights, allows distributing the pieces without the need for opening up directly in street. The house becomes opaque in the limits, but it expands in its inside.

Site

Mar Azul is a seaside resort 400 km south of Buenos Aires, with an extensive beach of dunes and lush virgin forest of conifers. The land is part of the forest has the distinction of being very narrow and long and having a surface slope almost 5 meters before the baseline. From that point the dune has a sharp depression of low vegetation cover (acacia) but no pines. So looking from the lot to that area, conifers of the terrain is clear cut in this very special evening when the sun is going down and horizontally through the trees. This uniqueness makes this undoubtedly the most privileged view.
