Heterojunctional Pavilion in Gyeonggi Province, Korea by URBAN PROJECT ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN STUDIO

Tuesday, July 5th, 2016

Article source: URBAN PROJECT ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN STUDIO

This project considers the Gaon Lake Park in which the building is located as a significant contextual reference. The large park is sitting in the middle of a huge neighborhood with apartment complexes, two hours from Seoul metropolitan area. This unique type of construction is typical of Korean urban development—building and selling thousands of housing units at one time. Although this type of development contains potential negative side effects for the future, the landscape is more positively designed than the apartment complexes in preserving the natural wetland which is left as the original entity in the park.

MECA in Bordeaux, France by Big Bjarke Ingels Group

Tuesday, July 5th, 2016

Article source: Big Bjarke Ingels Group

This project brings together three cultural institutions into one building: FRAC (the Aquitaine Regional Fund for Contemporary Art), ECLA (the Cultural Agency for Writing, Music, Film & Broadcasting), and OARA (the Artistic Office of the Aquitaine Region for performing arts). Together, they are transformed into a single institution: the Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine – the MÉCA. We propose a building integrated with the waterfront promenade of Bordeaux to allow public life to flow through the MÉCA.

Ario Choob Industrial Showroom & Office in Tehran, Iran by nextoffice

Tuesday, July 5th, 2016

Article source: nextoffice

“Ario Choob” project, which is an office & show-room for presenting imported lumbering machines, is located in the industrial town of “Behsazi Sanaye Choob”. Constructions in this industrial town are usually built from prefabricated concrete panels and each block is divided into four parts, with the height of 12 meters. Unlike the common appearance of these industrial towns, this town looks like a garden and the street network is constructed carefully in order to save the trees from any damage.

Infiniski Menta House in Reus, Spain by James & Mau

Tuesday, July 5th, 2016

Article source: James & Mau

The house of 100 m2 is designed in the shape of a cube organized on one level, including a central living area with an open kitchen, 2 rooms and a common bathroom.

Located in the country side of the Tarragona Province, the project was thought of as a weekend house, which needed to be easy to use, efficient and which would take full advantage of its natural surroundings.  The house was designed as a “living Box” which can be “opened”, “closed”, “switched on” “heated”, “cooled down” efficiently, easily and rapidly. The house is designed as a cube – rational and functional – where the transition between exterior and interior areas is as fluid as possible.

Tarifa House in Province Cadiz, Spain by James & Mau

Tuesday, July 5th, 2016

Article source: James & Mau

The terrain is located on a slope looking at the valley that dominates the Strait of the Gibraltar. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and soft winters, both humid, and very much influenced by the strong winds of Tarifa. The vernacular architecture of Andalusian “pueblos blancos”* with its patios and narrow streets reflects how the local building style adapts to the climate. Finally, the client expected us to propose to him not just a mere residential house but a complex area that would permit the development of several indoor and outdoor activities. As a result we proposed to condensate a “pueblo” on 300 m2 and turn it into a contemporary “cortijo”.  The rules that determine the design are the same as the ones behind its inspiring prototypes.
