Container Stack Pavilion in Taiyuan, Shanxi by People’s Architecture Office

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Article source: People’s Architecture Office

Shipping containers stacked and shifted in plan and layered in elevation maximize rooftop views and shaded public areas on the ground at the Container Stack Pavilion. A 7.5 meter cantilevered box is the point of entrance to the building’s upper level roof, while the pavilion itself seems to extend out toward bordering streets, showcasing its interior activities. The ends of each container are capped with full height windows, allowing sightlines throughout the entire building. Inside, a double height central atrium is carved out where the two levels of shipping containers overlap. The Container Stack Pavilion is a temporary structure that can be disassembled and moved to other locations.

Ocean Eye-A Terrace House in Puntarenas, Costa Rica by Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture

Wednesday, September 7th, 2016

Article source: Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture

The Holdener family bought a beautiful property with two breath-taking views: towards the ocean and into the jungle. We decided to rest the house against the back of the steep hill of the site in order to stabilize the soil and protect the house from falling debris. The house then transitions from a more solid and intimate construction at the back that holds bedrooms and bathrooms, towards a light-weight and ephemeral structure that points to the visual collapse of the ocean and jungle views. The result is a series of interwoven terraces that relate to each other in all dimensions creating not only an internal dynamic interaction between levels, but also varied and sometimes unexpected relationships between the inhabitants and the natural landscape. In these interstitial terrace spaces, which are never truly inside or out, architecture comes to foster the relationship, enjoyment, and appreciation of the natural world by the inhabitants.

A Warm Clinic in Tianjin, China by RIGI Design

Wednesday, September 7th, 2016

Article source: Sunshine PR

Dental clinic is not a happy place to go, or we should say, no clinic could make people feel happy: the cold registration desk, the worrisome waiting chairs and the disturbing doors of the clinic rooms; the whole space is filled with a sense of distrust between doctors and patients. However, from spiritual aspect, clinic should be a place which brings hope, or at least should be a warm space. It might not be a delightful thing to go to the dentist, so RIGI does some magic to this space through design, bringing it some kind of warmth and caring.

HAT house in Tokyo, Japan by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Wednesday, September 7th, 2016

Article source: APOLLO Architects & Associates

The client is a couple in their 50s and both work full-time. Their plan was to rebuild their parents’ house in the urban area in order to live with their mother. The site is located in a dense residential area where one can find the remnant of good old days of Tokyo. In order to prepare for possible natural disasters in the future, the couple wished to build a house of reinforced concrete box frame construction with high resistance to fire and earthquakes. Since the site is small with a deformed shape, it was required to achieve the maximum capacity while avoiding setback-line limits on each side of the house.
