Living under the roof in Lvry-sur-Seine, France by Prisca Pellerin Architecture & Intérieur

Article source: Prisca Pellerin Architecture & Intérieur

Presentation

This project is a complete renovation of an apartment 2-room attic. To enhance the quality of light of that “cocoon” housing, the bias has been to open up the spaces (decompartmentalisation, amplified perspectives, transparency of Parisian artist window frame… ) and playing on different shades of white and grey, specially thanks to different textures : glossy lacquer, matt and satin paint, polished concrete, leather and suede, linen, brick , white wood stain…

The house is built on a fan-shaped 800 sq. mt. plot, open to the northeast. After volumetric studies, we decided on an H scheme, rotating the north body to get the most sunlight and south aperture, and tilting the roofs to the north.

Franz Kafka Society Center in Prague, Czech Republic by STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Article source: STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

The basement of the small one-story building, formerly used for laundry and storage, now houses a space for exhibitions, lectures, and concerts, as well as it accommodates Franz Kafka’s private library. On the first level of the building the Franz Kafka Society has located its offices. The previously dark and dismal spaces of the building are now washed in daylight coming through newly inserted windows and skylights that provide unexpected views to the towers of the Maisel Synagogue. Marcela Steinbachová (Skupina) and Steven Holl Architects have deliberately situated these windows off axis to the interiors. Inside the building new visual connections through openings and inspection holes give its small spaces depth and create visual connections.

Transformation of a video library to a 750 m2 nursery.

The one storey building of a former video library is – except of one longitudinal side – surrounded by soil. The original floor plan with its polygon shape and its unusual depth turns daylight to the essential aspect of the design concept.
