PUSHI Jade Art Museum in Shanghai, China by Archi-Union Architects

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Article source: Archi-Union Architects

Jade Museum Xintiandi inspiration comes from Chinese jade and contemporary interpretation of calligraphy. The space is mainly for traditional jade exhibition, but the challenge is how to express a special space with East Zen and integrate into the commercial atmosphere of Xintiandi in a contemporary way. Although the overall volume is small, we try to see much in little and deal with the possibilities of a small-scale space abstractly. The experience inside the space is like in a shadowy painting scene with the power of nature like waves and thunders of a waterfall. We take the simplest sphere as the geometric object of operation, hide the structure and highlight the intention of space. Of course, during a very short-time construction period, digital fabrication method provides the quality assurance.

Residence in Sikamino, Greece by Tense Architecture Network

Friday, March 31st, 2017

Article source: Tense Architecture Network

The field is elongated, rural, planted with olive trees. The land is dominant. –How could a residence rise out of the ground, how could it be confined to a roof? The residence is its roof. A 60 meters long one. While approaching the plot, it can be perceived as a slightly elevated strip of earthy crust in front of the distant mountains of Euboea. It can be walked on. The roof is born from and returns back to the ground; it is planted likewise: helichrysum, drosanthemum, lavender, gauras, thyme. The roof’s shape is rhomboid and the living space is hosted under its central, maximum width area, while the sleeping quarters occupy the edges.

Solera Supermarket in Cologne, Germany by Masquespacio

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

Article source: Masquespacio

Masquespacio just finished their last project in Cologne, Germany, for supermarket chain Solera.

Sevillian entrepreneur Pepa Bascón decided to move to the German city Cologne twenty years ago in search of new adventures. After several experiences in hospitality, more than 10 years ago she decided to set up a small store of Spanish products in the center of Cologne, bringing the best of her native country to Germany. Thanks to the good acceptation of her project years further she decided to constitute a more ambitious wholesaler to attend a growing demand of Spanish products by Italian and Spanish restaurants in and around Cologne and Dusseldorf. The augmenting popularity of Spanish gastronomy in Germany, made that Pepa Bascón in 2016 decided to open a new ‘cash & carry’ supermarket with the aim to offer a specific service to non-professional clients in Cologne. For that she contacted Masquespacio to design her new brand and interior space. The design of the new Solera from around 500 m2 was developed in search of a touch of Mediterranean emotion, mixed with functional features necessary for this type of businesses. The predominating black color offers seriousness, contrasted with several ‘happy’ colors that remind to Spain, without converting themselves in typical Spanish topics. Other elements make us think about Andalucía like the grids with ornaments, as well as the awnings and typical Mediterranean tiles.

Black Box Gym in JingJuSi, China by Horus Architectural Design (HAD) & Epos Architects

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

Article source: Horus Architectural Design (HAD) & Epos Architects

Viewed from the street, the Black Box Gym appeared to be white! The project is formed by a group of open white boxes, harmoniously situated in an unused land of an aging urban community. It features steel beam-to-column, corrugated steel and perforated steel plates, which are widely applied in temporary architecture. The gym provides fitness facilities and space for people nearby. At night, it emits light through glasses and perforated steel plates, injecting new life into the dreary block. It is an eye-catching center of vitality, while at the same time it integrates harmoniously with the surroundings.
