skinnySCAR in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by Gwendolyn Huisman & Marijn Boterman

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

Article source: Gwendolyn Huisman & Marijn Boterman

The skinnySCAR project of architect couple Gwendolyn Huisman and Marijn Boterman shows how forgotten empty spaces in the city can be used. Each city has neglected spaces like this, that are unused and underrated. These gaps can be upgraded to complete the urban fabric, while giving it a boost and creating possibilities for new forms of urban living for the adventurous ones. As young designers, Gwendolyn and Marijn are not limited by design traditions and conventions, and they saw the potential and challenge of a narrow gap with extreme proportions in an old Rotterdam neighborhood. In 2012 the process to convince the landowners to sell the narrow plot started, so they could develop it into their own home. After a short construction period of only 4 months in 2015/2016, the contractor left them an unfinished structure. They’ve been finishing the entire interior themselves since then and their design ideas are becoming manifest.

Sensory order in Barcelona, Spain by Susanna Cots

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

Article source: Susanna Cots

In her new project, Sensory order, Susanna Cots breaks the taboos to create a space far from the conventional: a metaphor that goes from disorder to order through design, materials and a white and organic palette, the latter being the interior designer’s distinctive signature.

Minimally invasive design for a dental clinic

Interior designer Susanna Cots has been able to create an atmosphere of calm in a dental clinic by projecting a space in which the volumes, the sturdiness of solid wood and the unexpected presence of Nature in the form of vertical gardens, welcome patients to a world far from the traditional dentist.

The restoration and transformation for the former Kas Bank building will rejuvenate this national monument converting it into a five-star W hotel. The building, originally designed by F.W.M. Poggenbeek in 1908 was expended in phases until 1932. The building follows the classical typology of bank buildings with vaults on the ground floor and basement, a monumental bank hall on the first floor and offices above. The building is one of the first concrete constructions in the Netherlands and is finished with a sandstone facade.

HOUSE FOR A PHOTOGRAPHER in Bretagne, France by studio razavi architecture

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

Article source: studio razavi architecture

The defining concept for this house, commissioned by a photographer as both his summer house and studio, was based on developed facade studies which define a simple and smooth building skin varied in height and punctured by openings.

Two volumes define the main living & work spaces, both converge to the North corner freeing up as much space as possible on this small lot and turning all window openings to face South and West. The main space is compressed at the entry and releases up towards the landscape, the fan shaped plan gradually provides more floor area, volume and light. The second volume is exclusively dedicated to the owner’s studio. All rooms and bathrooms are reduced to a bare minimum and provide maximum surface area to living and work spaces.

Monticello’s Villas in Corsica, France by BONA-LEMERCIER S.C.P.A

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

Article source: BONA-LEMERCIER S.C.P.A

The project is located in Balagne (Corsica ), now a very popular tourist destination.   Buildings nearby compete in both size and amenities, aiming for the top of the market and in a neo-Provençal style that has become the standard for the region.

Occupying a large vacant field plot, a rarity in this area, set between sea and mountains, the two villas occupy only the steep and impracticable edge of the land, in contrast to the modern habit of building on the flattest and most even areas.

Hikari Yakitori Bar in Valencia, Spain by Masquespacio

Sunday, March 5th, 2017

Article source: Masquespacio

Masquespacio presents its last design for Hikari Yakitori Bar, the second project from the founders of Nozomi Sushi Bar, located in the same district of Ruzafa in Valencia two steps ahead from their actual restaurant.

After the big success of Nozomi sushi bar with a waiting list of 2 months, founders José Miguel and Nuria, together with their disciple Clara, decided to continue to study their passion for Japanese food. This time they wanted to introduce a totally new concept through Hikari, Yakitori Bar, traduced literally in a skewers bar that as well as his big brother Nozomi carries on the name of a high velocity Japanese train. Differently to the previous project the interior designed by creative consultancy Masquespacio, has been inspired by the different quarters and alleys of Kabukicho, Omoide Yokocho y Hajimeya in Tokyo, where most of the of the yakitori bars are established.
