Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Article source: Inhouse Brand Architects

What can only be described as the ultimate “man cave”, Inhouse Brand Architects has converted the unused lounge area of a Fresnaye residence into an industrial-inspired dream pad for the family’s lucky teenage boy and his friends.

Taking into account the youngster’s various interests such as skating, surfing and socialising, the Inhouse team aimed to create a trendy, multifunctional space. The project was steered by Creative Director Aidan Hart, and senior designer Jenine Bruce, who chose a modern industrial aesthetic for this youthful interior.

“House in Irino” in Miyazaki, Japan by Takeshi Ishiodori Architecture

Tuesday, December 6th, 2016

Article source: Takeshi Ishiodori Architecture

It is a house built in Aya-cho, Miyazaki Prefecture, which has the largest evergreen forest zone in Japan. There were three conditions on the premises.

1) There are restrictions on color and form because it is within the landscape area.

2) The traffic volume is high along the main road.

3) Leave a wonderful cherry tree on the site.

While fulfilling these three conditions, I aimed for a house that melts while giving stimulation to the cityscape.

Graziani + Corazza Architects innovative vision in partnerships with Canderel challenged Toronto’s downtown core by building Canada’s tallest residential structure. Aura, stands tall at 272 metres. This mixed use development is located on 1.6 acres of land adjacent to a 3 acre park at the northwest corner of Yonge and Gerrard Street. The tower expresses a unique sculpted form, beginning with its rectilinear lower level massing and topping off with its distinctive crown at the top of the tower being created by reversing the curved tower profile from plan to elevation, a form that is both visible and identifiable from varying vantage points throughout the city.

Lucky Knot in Hunan Province, China by NEXT architects

Saturday, December 3rd, 2016

Article source: NEXT architects

NEXT architects are working on a unique series of bridges all over the world. This time, their latest design isn’t an intriguing bat bridge (nominated for the 2016 Dutch Design Awards), but an iconic bridge in China: the Lucky Knot. The new steel pedestrian bridge in the Chinese mega city Changsha is 185 metres long and 24 metres high and fits perfectly in the sequence of extraordinary bridges that characterise NEXT’s practice; by explicitly engaging with the local context, the bridge designs offer new perspectives.

The eye-catching Lucky Knot has down-to-earth Dutch roots: NEXT architects holds offices in Amsterdam and Beijing. In 2013, after the completion of their breathtaking Melkwegbridge in Purmerend, NEXT was invited to take part in an international competition to design a new bridge to be constructed over the Dragon King Harbour River in Changsha’s rapidly developing ‘New Lake District’. For this special commission, the teams in Amsterdam and Beijing joined forces to come up with the unique, winning design: the Lucky Knot. Combining the Dutch team’s expertise in infrastructure and water management and Chinese team’s perseverance and knowledge of the local context was a crucial part of the process. The bridge has already become an icon, and was selected by CNN as one of the “most spectacular bridges that break the mold.”

Banker Wire Mesh Outfits State-of-the-Art Indoor Soccer Stadium in Montréal, Canada

Friday, December 2nd, 2016

Article source: Banker Wire

Built in the center of one of Montréal’s most diverse neighborhoods, the Stade de Soccer de Montréal is a new visual and cultural symbol in the city. Utilizing custom-fabricated Banker Wire mesh partitions around its indoor playing field, the stadium provides tens of thousands of soccer players with a first-class practicing and playing environment.

The design of the Stade de Soccer de Montréal pays homage to and blends in with its surrounding landscape – a former quarry now being turned into what will be the largest urban park in Montréal. Outside, the stadium shows its versatility as a structure built around the topography, not despite it.
