ZEN Retreat Home in Guanacaste, Costa Rica by SARCO Architects

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

Article source: SARCO Architects

This residence, located in the Peninsula Papagayo luxury resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, was penned by its owner to have an “Earthy Contemporary” architectural style. The home was designed in a lot overlooking the sixteenth hole of the Four Seasons Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. The design was thought to maximize the view to the golf course fairway down below, and to also take advantage of multiple existing trees around the home and give the home an exotic tree house feeling. We used a combination of large glazed surfaces for transparency, exposed steel structure, with wood and natural stone accents, to achieve a modern design with a natural feeling.

Article source: JMA

In response to the Hungarian government’s noble mission to erect new buildings for six important cultural institutions that are to be located within the City Park in Budapest, this design concept focuses on the museums of architecture and photography. The concept encompasses all aspects of the design program so as to present the jury, and the Hungarian people, with architectural works of art in both structure and landscape, that distinguish both the Hungarian culture and the whole of Europe in a world-renown manner. The concept intends to present works of art housing works of art harmoniously, providing an intriguing dynamic that will draw all visitors to its environs in a manner that simultaneously embraces interaction, enriches cultural pride, and satisfies a desire for an experiential aesthetic that will be immeasurably fulfilling and long-lasting.

Build a building between its long facade in the depth direction of the plot, forced to squint into the street and facing the neighbor; to overcome these drawbacks of perception have implemented the following tactics:

– The perimeter wall of each house is treated as thickness of light, and thus lives in light and not between party thicknesses which in turn sift the perception of them.Parque Virginia Residences

SAOTA’s design inspiration for Sindia eco-resort comes from the traditional architecture of the ‘fulbes’ – semi-nomadic shepherd people living in the savannah zone in Senegal. The proposed resort site is situated just outside the village of Sindia and from where its name originates. It is about 60km from Dakar.

Spacecraft by Jantzen Studio

Sunday, August 14th, 2016

Article source: Jantzen Studio

Spacecraft is a functional art structure made of painted wood and glass. It was designed as a special place in which to explore the beauty of three dimensional complexity, generated from the manipulation of a simple cube form. A wood frame that outlines the perimeter edges of the cube supports an eight-foot by eight-foot glass enclosure made of four sliding glass doors, a glass ceiling, and a glass floor. Each face of the cubes frame has an additional seven square frames attached. Each of these has been rotated the same distance from one corner and connected together into six identical sections. Each of these sections has been connected to the cubes six faces in different directions. As a result, the basic glass cube appears to be spinning apart in every direction, and fragmenting the space in unexpected ways, as each of the frame sections are frozen in time. The bottom section is placed on four legs that raise the structure up off of the ground, and six steps lead the visitors up into the structure.

Spacecraft is part of a series of structures that attempt to create new and exciting forms, through the unique manipulation of simple systems, which generate extreme and unexpected complexity.
