Rural Tourism Houses in Molino Lucero, Spain by elisavalero arquitectura

Friday, November 25th, 2016

Article source: elisavalero arquitectura

The plot where this work is situated was formerly a horse patio for the farm called Molino Lucero, at a crossroads between the Guadalteba reservoir and the town of Teba in the province of Malaga. The irregular, trapezoidal shape of this 475-meter plot and its access to an existing road on the north side were important determinants of the project. We also took into account the fine views of La Estrella Castle to the northeast, and the mountain range to the north and northeast.

The project is inspired by vernacular constructions with white walls and vertical openings and the criteria for this intervention were rationality, straightforwardness and good functioning.

The Harmony between Architecture and Belongings across Time: A Former “Kenban” Turned Into a Home.

Kinosaki Onsen, located in Hyogo Prefecture, is one of the leading onsen areas in Japan, with a history of over 1300 years. Just a short path in from the main street of this onsen city is a small stream, along which stands a former “kenban” (a place for geisha performers from the onsen to gather). Built 50 years ago, and surrounded by a bamboo forest, we converted/renovated this building into a residence.

Built on a ground with strong slope, the building takes advantage of the site by working on two levels.

Indeed, on a low level a garage and a studio take place. We can also find all the technical elements necessary for the efficiency of the house. The accesses to these spaces are completely hide since the outside, by dint of the rigor of the drawing. (Picture n°1 and 2)

Koumori-An 1945-2015 in Wakayama, Japan by Atsumasa Tamura design office

Value in Keeping

The 70-years old house was inherited from Owner’s aunt, who bought the original structure to teach Tea Ceremony. A new living quarter was added later to complete this wooden single-story building. It had been left as storage for years and was too damaged, yet Owner chose to keep the old characters, despite cost & time, than to build a new. Inspired by his wish, the renovation began not just to restore but rather to create a space where the old section merges into the new in a harmonious way. The “Koumori-An” house offers the concept of “Value in Keeping” which no new house can imitate.

Novell Ikebana in Neemrana, India by Design Forum International

Friday, November 25th, 2016

Article source: Design Forum International

Novell Ikebana was planned as a housing development that would cater to the economic and mid-premium segment. It is located in the outskirts of NCR, right off NH8, near the Japanese industrial zone in Neemrana. It was conceived as a utilitarian and functionality-driven housing scheme that will set new benchmarks in housing design in the rapidly developing B-towns in North India. Yet, within the design, there are provisions, avenues, methods and expressions that allow for lifestyle and design to be incorporated artistically and tastefully.

1770 in Queensland, Australia by Shaun Lockyer Architects

Friday, November 25th, 2016

Article source: Shaun Lockyer Architects

1770 is a bold, rustic beach house on a truly unique site on the edge of the Coral Sea. The east-facing house is conceived around a northerly courtyard (which sits in the lee of the wind) with transparent walls allowing panoramic views from all parts of the house. A rustic, raw material palette of stone, silvering timber and textured plaster speaks of the natural weathering that this place is all about.
