Sainte-Anne Academy, the school of tomorrow in Dorval, Canada by Taktik design

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

Article source: v2com

Designing an elementary school of tomorrow in a 120,000 square-foot heritage building built in 1896—that’s the challenge that Sainte-Anne Academy gave Taktik Design. From room layout to furniture design to communications, this innovative project was undertaken by Taktik Design’s industrial, interior and graphic designers. After the team proposed the initial solutions, they were given carte blanche to create an efficient environment that accommodates the latest teaching standards. The fun-filled environment at the Academy was designed with kids in mind; the space is less of an interpretation of their imaginations and more of a blank canvas for their creativity.

The architect’s inspiration came from the reclaimed eucalyptus wood of the “bateas”. These are the mussel production platforms that you see in the estuary and that constitute one of the most important local industry in “Ria da Arousa”, Spain. Eucalyptus wood is used in these platforms, and there are great extensions of this tree in the region.

Saturday, June 18th, 2016

Article source: EO arquitectura

The project presents the renovation of an apartment located in a building on the ‘Eixample’ neighbourhood, Barcelona.

Originally, the apartment presented a decayed and dark image due to the excessive subdivided rooms. The patio is very narrow and it scarcely receives light. Except for the two rooms next to the main facade, the apartment was barely illuminated by natural light.

NOBIS – EFTERSLÆGTEN Sportscentre in Copenhagen, Denmark by LAUNGAARD ARKITEKTER

Saturday, June 18th, 2016

Article source: LAUNGAARD ARKITEKTER

The project was to construct an indoor sports arena in an already existing urban environment. The challenge was to find the right architectural connection and identity between the existing structures and the new building. The functions of the new building, its dance hall, gym and lecture halls were different from that of the existing buildings and finding the right balance became a key priority.  The new indoor arena is pressed into the landscape and solidly grounded in order to ensure that the structure is kept on the same horizontal level as the existing structures. Pockets of light and air have been constructed to underline the different levels and dimensions of the surrounding landscape and the creation of layers in the façade to the Northwest is constructed in order to connect the exterior with the interior of the building. NOBIS’ façade reveals an inner secret, an inner structure and a layered structure to form an arena that serve as the surrounding structure for the game on the pitch. The layered construction of the faced is made up of ‘translucent polycarbons and expanded metalthat has a shading effect. The choice of materials ensures that the light in the arena is always changing and somewhat diffuse. The arena has a uniformed façade that leaves a different visual impression depending on the amount of light both inside and outside. On the backside of the Northwest end of the façade the columns and beams are revealed. The Arena is a place made for ‘combat’ – for physical challenges and heated matches – set within raw and bare columns.
