Red Mirror Strips in Seoul, South Korea by MasilWIDE

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: MasilWIDE

In Yeoksam-dong 618-2, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, there is a two story building covered with layers of horizontal mirror strips and vertical red transparency strips. Overlapping transparency and reflection, these layered strips of different materials create a strong visual illusion. Walking along the narrow stair passage between the layers, the visitors may feel dizzy not only because of the optical repetition but because of the trembling of the strips. The stair passage links the ground level to the roof deck changing the ordinary views of typical commercial blocks in Seoul to a phenomenal experience.

Wow! Sta. in Chuo-ku Niigata, Japan by Takeru Shoji Architects Co., Ltd.

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: Takeru Shoji Architects Co., Ltd.

Wow! Sta. is situated in Horinouchi, in the Central Ward of Niigata City – an area where the city center gradually begins to give way to the suburbs. The scenery lining the nearby main road is dominated by large commercial and retail buildings and their accompanying signage.

The businesses, houses and multilevel apartments that sprawl out from Niigata Station constitute this typical inner-city area.

Located just one street back from the main road with its dazzling lights and the din of the traffic, we find an area that is surprisingly calm, unlit by even street lights.

G.Zanella Primary School Renovation and Extension in Villafranca ( VR), Italia by GDA officina di architettura

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: GDA officina di architettura

The project area is located in the outskirts of Villafranca and Verona, between the urban core and the agricultural land.

The more distinctive presence is  the “strada della Rizza” around which is structured the small village Rizza,  that’s  a quite busy output axis of Verona.

The new building is designed as a reconstruction and expansion of a previously existing one  lying parallel to the “strada della Rizza”  and looks like an inhabited wall that protects the school from the nearby road. For this reason, it present a 3,5m high basement in concrete without any window that look like an infrastructure’s construction.

Carlo Pazolini Brompton in London, England by Giorgio Borruso Design

Thursday, April 13th, 2017

Article source: Giorgio Borruso Design

Carlo Pazolini, Brompton Rd is a 120 sqm space in Knightsbridge, London, housing men’s and women’s shoes and accessories. The design marks an evolution of the Carlo Pazolini worldwide store concept integrating specificities of site. Our design sought to recognize the memory of the adjacent 18th Century Brompton Arcade (now part of a retail store) by recreating a contemporary barrel vault ceiling as well as the illusion via a mirror wall that the space opens to the exterior at the back. An historical detail in the facade was used as a generative “seed” for the interior geometric language and led us to a pointed rather than semicircular barrel vault design. The memorialization of this neighboring arcade space led to a tunnel-like twisting of the interior in such a way that the floor, walls, and ceiling become wrapped into one another, creating a vortex of movement from front to back in which design elements flock like schools of fish moving through a turbulent fluid environment.

GeoEdge offices in Tel Aviv, Israel by Studio Samuelov

The Space

Our underlying design strategy was to disperse designated closed rooms throughout the floor, to create open work extensions which enjoy a measure of intimacy to reinforce the \”team\” spirit of specific outfits. The creation of surrounding large windows allows for ultimate utilization of natural daylight in the interior, sending a message of transparency and openness that enhances human interaction and strengthens GeoEdge’s corporate culture.

University of Winchester Winton Chapel in England by Design Engine Architects Ltd

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Article source: Design Engine Architects Ltd

The project was to renovate and extend the University’s Victorian Chapel. Originally built in 1880, and then extended in 1927, the Chapel is used for a number of different events and purposes: services, group meetings, concerts and as a place of quiet contemplation.

In 2015 the University commissioned Design Engine Architects to oversee a complete restoration of its internal and external fabric. In addition, the University asked for an extension to the chapel, to include a small side chapel and a social and meeting space. The brief was to create a very special project, to sit as a small ‘jewel’ in the heart of the campus.

Nest House by BEARprogetti

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Article source: BEARprogetti

You must constantly try to climb very high, if you want to be able to see very far. (Constantin Brâncuşi).

Like an eagle’s nest, Nest House takes advantage of its location to become a modern shelter on the top of the mountain. Even from the first inspection at the house, when there were no walls yet, it has been clear: nothing more needed besides what was seen out of the stately windows! That’s why all the spaces of the everyday life have been gathered together in a single, wide, open space. It would have been a huge mistake to foreclose the overall view of the landscape by splitting it up into small rooms trapped between walls … and so even the home life leads through the shape of the space, in a contemporary way to live it and to enjoy it … a few and simple objects define the functions at once: the kitchen with its island, the breakfast table, the table and the sofa. The large central fireplace is the common element of all these areas, it heats the rooms and the heart all day long.
