A home port for all sailors and a haven for the shipwrecked.

To imagine a place that is not virtual, but real.

To be dedicated to Peace, is an immensely taxing undertaking of profound ethical significance.

Armani Ginza Tower in Tokyo, Japan by Studio Fuksas

Wednesday, July 27th, 2016

Article source: Studio Fuksas

It is always difficult to crystallize someone’s image, and all the more so when it comes to Giorgio Armani, one of the most popular man in the world. In the Tokyo’s flagship store, it was necessary to make his mood come to light alongside his own designer’s creativity; it was about recreating the atmosphere of the famous Italian fashion designer’s atelier as well as his aesthetics and image. In Tokyo, for the first time, the entirety of his production is contained within the same building. How to translate these elements into architecture? How to combine the idea of splendor with a sober elegance, the idea of modernity with the permanence of a style…… the Armani style? His image, the ceaseless research about material combined with luminous, transparent, delicate colours have been the elements from which our reflection has started. Our proposals have been multifarious. We have experimented new textures and shaped, sculpted, emptied, dematerialized spaces using light, the evanescence of an intimate perception born from the outside. The sophisticated image of Giorgio Armani’s brand, full of transparencies and intimacy, is countered by the immediacy and contemporaneity of the spaces dedicated to the Emporio, where white light cuts cleave the ambient while reflecting in it.

District Water Board Brabantse Delta in Breda, Netherlands by Kaan Architecten

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

Article source: Kaan Architecten

Rather than the arrival of a new office building, the realization of the headquarters of the Brabantse Delta water board signifies a new lease of life for the century-old country estate (first mentioned late 14th century), and an important symbol for the landscape at the South of Breda. With its new premises on the Bouvigne estate, the district water board has provided appropriate continuity for a piece of cultural-historical heritage. The scope of the commission was broad, extending the castle, the gardens and the surrounding structures and grounds, including the chapel and the castle gatehouse.

Noor Restaurant in Córdoba, Spain by ggarchitects

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

Article source: ggarchitects

Spaces, motifs, materials and light evoke the atmosphere of the Caliphate in the pursuit of a complete andalusian gastronomic experience

When Paco Morales embarked on the opening of his newest restaurant in Córdoba, he parted from a clear and ambitious premise: to regain and reinterpret Andalusian cooking from an avant-garde andhaute cuisine perspective. Therefore, the Cordoban chef didn’t conceive NOOR as a usual restaurant, but as a “cultural project” which would provide diners a complete gastronomic experience, that is, an actual recreation of what a palace banquet at the 10th century Medina Azahara might have been. Thisrequired going beyond a mere gastronomic proposal and involved all aspectssurrounding NOOR: from architecture to staff clothing, taking care and pampering every detail about decoration and tableware.

The project is located in Jalisco, Mexico on the West Coast of the Pacific Ocean. It embraces a full conversion of an existing house of the 1960s.

The site of the house is on a silent road close to the beach on a rectangular plot, surrounded by small and typical 2 storey houses. A little garden at the entrance of the house on the west side creates an open space that can be used for parking as well.

The station came into service in December 2015, after five years of works, and is expected to handle 85,000 passengers daily by 2023.
