Stazione FAL Matera Centrale in Italy by Stefano Boeri Architetti

Monday, December 23rd, 2019

Article source: Stefano Boeri Architetti

Located in Piazza della Visitazione, the new Matera Centrale train station represents an important link between the city’s old town, post-war and modern districts and a key point of access to the city of Matera in the year that it’s set to become the European Capital of Culture.

“Designing a new railway station has allowed us to anticipate the characteristics of the city which this new station will provide access to, both in terms of location and architecture,” comments the architect Stefano Boeri. “We’ve created a structure that we hope will become a sort of junction, as well as a place to take a break or interact with others. The new public space consists of two empty areas: one that runs alongside the railway tracks (six metres below ground), and a piazza (at ground level), which is sheltered and demarcated by a large roof.”

Located relatively close to universities, TIII-15 Boarding House was developed in a well-known boarding house district in northern Bandung. The owner & architect were agreed to not merely build a profitable temporary settlement for workers/scholars, but also to create appealing comfort for users as a result of responding to contextual strengths & weaknesses.Overall, the issues are quite similar with any current urban project: optimising limited space & providing healthy atmosphere.

KPMB Architects Office in Toronto, Canada

Sunday, December 22nd, 2019

Article source: KPMB Architects

KPMB Architect’s new offices transcribe the warmth of its former timber loft studios on King Street West in its new offices in the Globe and Mail building. Located on the 12th floor, the panoramic views of the city and Lake Ontario inspired a democratic plan with a continuous, and fully accessible perimeter. Four, large open work zones are organized around a central, wood-lined pavilion containing the communal spaces of meeting and gathering, including a staff lounge and town hall. East-west avenues and north-south streets intersect the wood pavilion to connect people and projects. The minimal palette combines white oak, exposed concrete and glass walls, with sustainable carpet tile and project pin-up surfaces made from recycled plastic to give the space a raw yet sophisticated edge.

House ROFR in Grimisuat, Switzerland by Ralph Germann architectes

Sunday, December 22nd, 2019

Article source: Ralph Germann architectes

Ralph Germann’s design for this house is driven by the building’s natural surroundings, environment-conscious technology, and a simple and timeless aesthetic.

Built on a property on the heights of Sion, the 36-metre-long and 6.5-metre-wide building follows the lines of the hill like a wall in an orchard. A wall that protects and stabilizes the slope was the vision of Ralph Germann for this house. The grey colour of the facade supports the idea of a protective rock.

Since Valais is a seismic zone, the structure of the building is concrete.

KT House in Brazil by Mila Ricetti Arquitetura

Sunday, December 22nd, 2019

Article source: Mila Ricetti Arquitetura

“The unconventional shape of the building land plus the required six-meter strip retreat along to the street guided the project implementation. The house was designed from clear volumes, natural materials, seeking cross ventilation, natural lighting and a delicate fit into the building site. Designed for a young couple and their children, the project’s premise was to guarantee full visual domain. The house develops around a central courtyard connecting the three well-defined wings: service, social and intimate, which all open completely to the central courtyard, allowing the house to be fully connected. Wooden brises and glass panels allow optional isolation and privacy when desired.

The Check Point Building for the Faculty of Computer Sciences in Tel Aviv Yafo, Israel by Kimmel Eshkolot Architects

Sunday, December 22nd, 2019

Article source: Kimmel Eshkolot Architect

Located in the center of the Tel Aviv University campus, The Check Point Building by Kimmel Eshkolot just open to the public this month. As a seemingly floating volume in the campus, it contrasts the adjacent Mario Botta’s iconic Cymbalista Synagogue and the the 1960s Faculty of Exact Sciences.

The Check Point Building is a new type of technology integrated building with a unique envelope made of pixels of glass that were designed using parametric modeling. This shell was developed specifically for the project, and it is an innovative system matching the values that the building represents. Its positioning frames an area to the west of the building which supports its conversion from a parking lot to a central square in the campus.
