The Social Plant in Toplița, Romania by blipsz architecture

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

Article source: blipsz architecture

The Mayor’s Office of Toplita initiates the rehabilitation of a former industrial facility ahead of the great majority of towns in Romania. Instead of keeping away from these types of real estate values or adopting a scheme of denial, concealment, the proposal „raises” the building from the level of an infrastructural facility to the grade of a community facility: and creating the charming metaphore of a former heating facility as a lively social center.

Neudorf sports hall in France by Atelier Zündel Cristea

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Article source: Atelier Zündel Cristea

The Neudorf area of Strasbourg is undergoing a major programme of redevelopment to fill the void that currently separates the city centre from its southern neighbourhoods. This urban project particularly exploits the site’s central location and the pleasant canal-side landscape, proposing densification as an alternative response to the sprawl of housing and facilities on the edges of the city.

House in Travanca, Portugal by Nelson Resende, Architect

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Article source: Nelson Resende, Architect

The presented house, built in an irregular area, with a constant pendent, is located in a rural village, surrounded by a certain kind of dispersion, diversity of typologies and scales creating a lack of visual unity in the surroundings.

It has, however, great salubrity conditions, a good solar exposition, dominant altimetry in what concerns to the visual and physical connections to the neighborhood.

ARCHEODUNUM, ARCHEOLOGIC RESEARCH CENTER in Haute Garonne, France by Christophe Hutin architecture

Saturday, December 12th, 2015

qArticle source: Christophe Hutin architecture

The archeologic research center of Archeodunum includes storage rooms and researcher’s offices. The project is composed of two volumes, one concerning the excavations storage with a maximum height of 3.9 meters, the other including the offices, with a height of 3.2 meters. The overlap between the two volumes  comes to create a large cloister. The facades that look into the cloister are completely glazed with sliding doors. An ornamental pond contributes to the visual comfort of the interior spaces and refreshes them during summer time. All the project is made of light materials (steels, glass and polycarbonate). From the street, a wall is made of ancient Roman amphoras, collected during the excavations of the archeologists.
