Article source: Takuro Yamamoto Architects

House with 30,000 Books is a residence for two families, which has a large library between those two dwelling parts. As the name suggests, the number of books the library can store is about 30,000, which almost equals to the number of books that one small public library can store. The library space, sometimes works for bonding two families, sometimes works as a buffer space, is the common property for them and the most spacious place of this house.

Hotel Flottant in Paris, France by Seine Design

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: Seine Design

VOLUME AND INTEGRATION

A piece of Paris on the Seine

The integration of OFF Paris Seine in its environment comes first by the very Parisian expression it proposes. The hotel merges with the city via its right and left banks and the twin hulls of the hotel itself, the river Seine that splits the city, its zinc roofs, and the multiplicity of its services. In many ways OFF Paris is like a floating fragment of the city itself.

Annex House in Ontario, Canada by DUBBELDAM Inc. Architecture + Design

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: DUBBELDAM Inc. Architecture + Design

When the client, a young couple, purchased this property with its two structures – the main building and coach house – both had been used as rooming houses for many years. The client wished to convert the fragmented property back into a single family residence, suitable for their expanding family and optimized for entertaining, while taking advantage of the two buildings on the site. The distinct structures define an outdoor space that has been designed as a courtyard and outdoor extension of the kitchen and dining rooms. The courtyard evolves from season to season and from day to day; it is a quiet resting place, brunch patio, and reading sanctuary on the way to yoga in the coach house, coming alive with the kids’ after school activities or as guests arrive to a backyard barbeque.

Konterra in Gurgaon, India by SWBI Architects Pvt. Ltd

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: SWBI Architects Pvt. Ltd

As one meanders through the busy bustling roads of Udyog Vihar commercial hub in Phase 4, one really can’t miss the imposing terracotta cladded edifice with its imposing presence around the corner. The address neighborhood has found its landmark in the form of 505, Udyog Vihar called Konterra.

Located at a prominent location of Udyog Vihar at the gateway of Gurgaon near the bygone toll plaza off NH-8, Konterra is at a stone throw distance from Indira Gandhi International Airport – IGI Airport, with just a mere 10 minutes from the airport. That’s a perfect location for the travelling working professionals in Konterra to enjoy a sweet ride where their not-so-blessed compatriots are struggling to get to the airport from other locations. It can veritably be garlanded as the best location in Udyog Vihar, easily accessible from NH-8. Flanked by NH-8 and the Old Delhi Gurgaon Road, Konterra’s residents enjoy a twin commutable spine which otherwise is a terrific boon to already road strapped users in Gurugram.

M6B2 Tower of Biodiversity in Paris, France by Maison Edouard François

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: Maison Edouard François

The relationship between building height and sustainability is a subject that currently occupies the minds of many city planners. This is because the city cannot expand infinitely into the landscape. In France, however, \”village\” urbanism seems to be adamantly resisting the vertical city, without truly considering its potential. One of the objectives of our project is to quell these hesitations.

Sarepta Lutheran Church Social Institution for Disabled People in Budapest, Hungary by MODUM Architects Ltd.

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: MODUM Architects Ltd.

Protestant harmony

In 2012, the Hungarian Lutheran Church invited a number of selected architecture firms to take part in the competition for the modernisation and extension of the Sarepta Evangelical Institution for the disabled, along with designing its new residential building. The professional jury has chosen the proposal of the winner of the Ybl Award, András Krizsán (DLA). After the permission of plans – as the result of a lucky turn of events – the Church was able to purchase an extra plot for the new building on Máriaremetei Road, not far from the original location of the Institution. This has created the possibility of building two buildings with the division of latter site.

Résidence Belcourt in Québec, Canada by Atelier Pierre Thibault

Friday, December 9th, 2016

Article source: Atelier Pierre Thibault

The Residence Belcourt is a typical Canadian house built in 1974. Clients underwent major renovations in order to optimize the functionality of the residence while maximizing the entry of natural light. Only the overall volume, the exterior stone walls and the pool were kept from the original house. The project now shows a concept. The side walls integrate services and storage in order to free the heart of the ground floor. New living spaces are organized around a sculptural plywood staircase. The new organization of spaces promotes family life within large communicating areas. The addition of a pergola in cedar slats and a generous terrace at the rear allows to offer outdoor living spaces that extend to the garden and to facilitate access to the inner courtyard.
