Slice of the City in Hyogo, Japan by ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Article source: ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Nishinomiya is a city located between Osaka and Kobe. The site is situated in a residential neighborhood with typical block layout. According to the local construction policy, there needs to be a fifty-centimeter setback from the site boundary, which allows a one-meter narrow gap between the houses. Normally, each household will have the windows facing the public roads with the curtains shut to keep its privacy. Therefore, openings as such are not providing the occupants with much light, ventilation or views.

The Retreat House by Jantzen studio

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Article source: jantzen studio

The Retreat House was designed as a special functional art place in which to escape from the norm. It was made from a series of prefabricated, modular, components that can be assembled together in many different ways in order to form many different sizes and shaped structures. The basic module consists of a half floor, wall, and roof section that can be used as it is, and/or connected together with another to form a complete floor, walls, and roof profile.

Rock house in Gyeonggi, South Korea by B.U.S Architecture

#1. Revealed Rock

As the demand of rural housing grows, more and more people are developing and moving to spectacular mountainous areas. The site on which the rock house was located is also one of the rural housing sites developed in this way. Particularly, the greatest advantage of developing a mountainous area into a building site is ensuring the open view based on the high level as well as the right to the southern light with no interference. In addition, the rock house has a unique site specific: the naturally stony land, excavation of which thus has revealed a great rock on the site. The unrealistic rock we encountered when visiting the site has been located at the mouth of entering the house, so exquisitely hiding the neighboring house and opening the view toward the Northern Han River. From this time on, we have referred to this house as the rock house.

APARTMENT BUILDINGS WITH 62 UNITS OF SOCIAL HOUSING in Carrières-sous-Poissy, France by inSpace architecture

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Article source: inSpace architecture

Located on the southeastern edge of the residential neighborhood of Saint Louis-les-Grésillons, facing a large swathe of vegetation in the unbuilt floodplain of a meander of the Seine, the shape of the lot results from a restructuring of a much larger city block previously occupied by a hostel for migrant workers. The project stands at the southwest corner of the block and is delimited by the chemin de Beauregard on the south side, the rue de la Chapelle on the west side and a new road on the north side.

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Article source: noiz arhcitects

Noiz in collaboration with the curator Fabrice Douar and Lucie Lom, designed the exhibition space for : “L’OUVRE 9: Open the Louvre’s 9th Art Comic Collection” at the MoNTUE (Museum of Taipei University of Education) in Taipei, Taiwan. The site is both meaningful and familiar, as Noiz has designed the museum interior and a series of exhibitions for MoNTUE since their opening in 2012. It was, therefore, an exciting experience to be able to revamp the space one more time.

YS114 House in Taipei, Taiwan by Preposition Architecture

Thursday, January 21st, 2016

Article source: Preposition Architecture

This single family house is located in a gated community on a hill near Taipei. Ever since the beginning of the design, a portion of the land property right was not clearly defined (the issue had been resolved later) hence the structure is limited to be in the North-West of the site. The result is that only 98 sqm of the land is permitted to be developed on this 280 sqm site and the building has to grow vertically with each interior floor area varies from 46 sqm to 76 sqm only (including stair case & elevator shaft).

Article source: ArchiWorkshop

“The brightest space can be experienced during the day, though, becomes the darkest at night”.

In the commercial space, a place was thought, where artificial light does not exist and people can sense the natural time. It is a small outer space, yet gives a great influence and impact to the rest of the inner space. We, as an architect, pursue to offer space and environment, which becomes an art work itself.

DS House in Brussels, Belgium by DWEK ARCHITECTURE + PARTNERS s.c./s.p.r.l.u.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Article source: DWEK ARCHITECTURE + PARTNERS s.c./s.p.r.l.u.

Although we now think spontaneously of symmetry as being the perfect replication of two sides around a central axis, originally, to cite Vitruvius, “symmetry is a proper agreement between the members of the work itself and relation between the different parts and the whole general scheme”. There is no mention of bilateral symmetry. In Greek, summetria quite simply means “proportion” or “measure”. But since ancient times, sensible to balance and stability, mankind has built edifices that adopt the rules of bilateral symmetry: pyramids, temples, cathedrals, etc., along with vases, bifaces and steles. Yet too perfect symmetry induces boredom. Emotion leaps out from imperfections, the unforeseen and discrepancies.

The Segmented Building System by jantzen studio

Wednesday, January 20th, 2016

Article source: jantzen studio

The Segmented Building System is an eco-friendly, energy efficient, prefabricated, modular building system. The building components consist of four-foot wide segments that vary in height, and can be delivered to the construction site in pieces, or as assembled profiles. Each of the segments are made of structural insulated foam panels that are connected together to form a floor, walls, and a roof. The configurations of these panels can make full floor, walls, and roof profiles, and/or half floor, wall, and roof profiles. They can be prefabricated with various kinds of exterior cladding such as metal or cement composite boards, and/or they can be clad at the construction site, after the structural panels have been assembled.
