Entrepot Macdonald in Paris, France by Kengo Kuma and Associates

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: Kengo Kuma and Associates

Macdonald had been a gigantic distribution center since the 1970s, located at Macdonald Street in Paris. OMA was the master planner of the project and their proposal was rather distinctive. They preserved the old two-storied building (which extends as long as 500m), and asked 5 other architects to work on newly added programs. We were responsible for the western part of the building, and designed facilities for a junior and senior high schools, and local sports center.

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: Vassiliades Architects

In this house with bioclimatic elements in Kantou, Cyprus, the building program was structured in such a way that it is fully operational, while the aim of the full exploitation of the environmental conditions in order to save energy and achieve thermal comfort for users was achieved. All the above, resulted its ranking in energy class “A”. The main idea, which determined the final morphological outcome, is characterized by the parallel synthesis of 3 monolithic volumes. Morphologically, the design combines some more “traditional” typologies and materials with other modern minimalist trends. In this design context, the “monolithic” volumes, are coated with different materials, from a neutral white color to stone and wood panels.

Collector’s Oasis in Lausanne, Switzerland by Daniele Claudio Taddei Architect

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: Daniele Claudio Taddei Architect

The task was to transform the ground floor of a 70’s office building, used as a kindergarten, into a clean and contemporary house for a collector.

Some 16 tons of concrete were cut away, to enlarge the windows overlooking the two level garden. Remaining were three concrete pillars, which were integrated in the floor plan of the apartment using them for the fireplace, the closet and the TV wall… creating so an open but organized and structured space.

Serlachius Museum Gösta Extension Competition Entry in Mänttää, Finland by MCKNHM Architects and Juliane Demel

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: MCKNHM Architects and Juliane Demel\

A simple concept of an architectural heart surrounded by radial arranged building wings, results in a design that minimizes the impact on a very delicate site for a museum extension in Mänttää Finland.

MCKNHM Architects main objective was to reduce the impact of the volume on the delicate site and to intertwine the building with the beautiful environment. Through the “heart and wings” concept the large building mass of 4700sqm is scattered around a central heart. The new building is split up into a number of squares that form a dialectic relationship towards the site and the existing Museum building. These square like building wings are arranged in a circle to form the central space, “the Heart” of the new Museum Extension. Joenniemi Manor, the existing museum building, is a very particular one of these wings as the tallest and oldest, its sublime presence is still untouched and engages in an interesting dialogue with the new clustered building addition that is cautiously connected by a barely visible underground passageway.

“Naïve” sparkling wine bar in Kiev, Ukraine by AKZ Architectura

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Article source: AKZ Architectura

Zuieva Katya and Olga Malyshenko (AKZ Architectura, Kiev, Ukraine) were requested to design a new bar in Kiev. The task was very interesting: create a space that fundamentally different from all the Kiev bars that include bricks, wood and rusty metal. Designers feel absolutely free in their creative decisions. So they take the conception of Naïve bar about sparkling wine and try to show in interior the essence of this drink – the lightness and a sense of celebration. The bright and in the same time gentle colors with the returning 70th style that displayed in furniture with “Art Deco” style bathroom create the space where you whant to forget everything and “just drink sparkling wines and cocktails and feel happy”.
