Quarter of Nations in Hamburg, Germany by Gerber Architekten

Thursday, June 11th, 2015

Article source: Gerber Architekten

The ‘Quarter of Nations‘ in Hamburg’s Wilhelmsburg district was created in connection with the IBA 2013 – a model intercultural housing project intended to house more than 1,700 inhabitants originating from 30 different nations. Gerber Architekten extended a traditional workers’ housing development with two new buildings that respond to the most fundamental elements of the existing architecture and reinterpret them by incorporating sculptural head-end volumes, whilst simultaneously reconciling them with the high energy efficiency requirements of a passive building. There are a total of 75 publicly-funded housing units, of different sizes and offering different forms of accommodation; they combine accommodation types suitable for single persons, couples and families, thereby ensuring an appropriately-mixed social profile for the ‘Quarter of Nations‘.

DORMERS HOUSE in Hilversum, The Netherlands by Studio 2 stripeS

Thursday, June 11th, 2015

Article source: Studio 2 stripeS

This private house on the outskirts of a small village near Hilversum was extended by two large dormers from which one has a staggering length of 9 meters.

This house built in the early 70s has very nice details on the gutter and the eaves. While designing the extension on the first floor we found it really important to continue in this existing style. The design we came up refers to the former details and color pallet.

Blum Showroom in D.F., Mexico by Taller David Dana Arquitectura

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

Article source: Taller David Dana Arquitectura

Seen from above, the cubic geometry of the Blum project becomes an incident in its surroundings, one horizontal object among many vertical on the Santa Fe financial district. This canonical contemporary object is framed both by the dense infill of new construction in the area and by the nearby freeways, and the flux of vehicular transportation.

INOUT house in San Jose, Costa Rica by Joan Puigcorbé

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

Article source: Joan Puigcorbé

This house establishes an uninterrupted ¨inside-outside¨ relationship; a sequence of layers between the open and the intermediary. Frontal boundaries are blurred by sheets of glass and vegetation, framed by two horizontal planes, floor and ceiling, where the full and the void are related via a series of matter, water, vegetation and sky. Lateral boundaries establish the ¨full-void¨ relationship via a series of solid materials that close transversal views.

Three level penthouse by Svetozar Andreev Architectural Studio

Sunday, June 7th, 2015

XVIII century building attic area renovation to three-level penthouse:

“The architect and interior designer Svetozar Andreev needed a lot of imagination skills when he saw the attic of the house he had to redesign. In the result, he turned a dirty attic with a leaky roof into a modern 3-level penthouse apartment. The powerful sunshine through the big rooftop windows fill the whole apartment with natural light. In an interior, besides furniture of well-known brands, the most part of subjects is created according to Svetozar Andreev’s sketches: the kitchen tables, systems of built-in furniture are made especially for this interior. The large terrace allows an owner to have a barbecue on an open air, and it is simple to admire historic center of the city without leaving own apartment.”
