RAFAL SECONDARY SCHOOL in Alicante, Spain by Grupo Aranea

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

Article source: Grupo Aranea

The project for the Rafal High School was addressed in 2007 as a frontal rejection of the speculative urban sprawl that has been responsible for the rapid disappearance of the fertile agricultural land in the area of Vega Baja, transforming it into a landscape dotted with series of cloned houses totally foreign to this place.

Article source: AVENIER CORNEJO ARCHITECTES

Located at the end of Rue Georges Clemenceau, at the entrance to the university grounds, the plot of land offered the advantage of a three-way view, including one on the park. The clients of the Avenier Cornejo architecture firm were friends of friends. The project developed in a relaxed atmosphere where the architects were allowed a great deal of freedom. The family was open to any proposal for their new home as long as it offered plenty of light, a quality which had been lacking in their previous residence.

The White Mountain School Catherine Houghton Arts Center in Bethlehem, New Hampshire by Randall Walter of BWC

Sunday, September 13th, 2015

Article source: Randall Walter of BWC

The site for this art studio facility was an abandoned tennis court at the heart of the campus. The School had originally been a private country estate, with landscaping designed by the Olmsted Brothers and most of the original features remain. The original owners gifted the property to the School in the late 1930’s but the majority of the original architecture was lost in a tragic fire in the early 1960’s. A new complex was built along with several dorms and all were designed by the same architect, John Carter. The campus therefore has a very cohesive “mid-century modern” aesthetic.

Writers’ Cottage 2 in Oslo, Norway by JVA

Sunday, September 13th, 2015

Article source: JVA

This small annex is located in the garden of two professionals in a residential area on the outskirts of the city.

The clients wanted a place that would give them space and quiet to focus on their writing and work. At the same time they wanted a view that could somehow remind them of their native West-Norwegian landscapes, this in spite of the site’s location only offering views towards a parking lot and a train station. Their intention was that the project would work as an alternative to a cottage in the countryside.
