The Catena Media Office in New Belgrade, Serbia by AUTORI

Monday, February 26th, 2018

Article source: AUTORI

The Catena Media office is located in the Airport City bussines center in Belgrade and is designed for a team of curious individuals who make what is one of the most successful companies in the igaming industry. This is an open space office overlooking the New Belgrade panorama. The space is designed so that every employee has his own working and relaxing zone. The result is an office which is just like a game, full of tricks, obstacles, fun features, secret parts and surprises. This is how the spirit of the igaming industry is transposed to the elements and the way the space is used.

Museum for the Defense and Siege of Leningrad in Saint Petersburg, Russia by LAHDELMA & MAHLAMÄKI ARCHITECTS

Monday, February 26th, 2018

Article source: LAHDELMA & MAHLAMÄKI ARCHITECTS

Lahdelma & Mahalmäki Architects have unveiled Requiem, their competition proposal for the Museum for the Defense and Siege of Leningrad, St. Petersburg. The project was undertaken in partnership with Ralph Appelbaum Associates who, together, formed the only international team amongst the four final designs. The design sees an elegant spiral, buried in the landscape, reaching up from the exhibitions which are buried in a vast cavern underground. The route corkscrews out the top of the riverside, reaching outwards to give views over the new St. Petersburg.

Walcot Square in England by FORM studio

Sunday, February 25th, 2018

Article source: FORM studio

Planning Consent has just been granted for this brownfield residential development in the Kennington Conservation area, providing six new houses for rent for historic local Lambeth charity the Walcot Foundation.

Malcolm Crayton, Director at FORMstudio, comments: “The approval for this well-mannered, low-density development, despite the considerable orchestrated opposition from its immediate neighbours, was ultimately a victory for common sense. Although it is widely recognised that the urgent need for new housing involves inevitable densification and the redevelopment of smaller brownfield sites such as this, the ‘not in my back yard’ factor can still be a major hurdle to overcome.”

McEwen School of Architecture in Sudbury, Canada by LGA Architectural Partners

Sunday, February 25th, 2018

Article source: LGA Architectural Partners

LGA Architectural Partners designed Laurentian University’s McEwen School of Architecture to prepare young architects for the critical design issues of the 21st Century. McEwen is not your typical architecture school – its curriculum emphasizes architecture and fabrication techniques focused on the traditional and evolving aspects of life in the north, including Indigenous culture, wood construction, local ecologies and resources, and design for the impact of climate change.

Guided by Ted Kesik, LGA collaborated with many stakeholders to develop a “Sustainability Design Manifesto” to address the conditions of the northern environment and ensure that the school is highly sustainable, going well beyond LEED. For example, the new building was massed and oriented to optimize heating, cooling and natural ventilation to conserve energy and minimize reliance on the mechanical system.
