Georgia’s Kutaisi International Airport by UNStudio

Monday, December 18th, 2017

Article source: UNStudio

The UNStudio designed Kutaisi International Airport was recently voted one of the 13 most beautiful airports in the world by ‘Curbed magazine’ (May 2017).

Just four and a half years after its official opening (September 2012), the airport has grown rapidly from 12,915 passengers per year to more than 300,000 in 2016. Predictions for the low-cost airliner airport are such that it is expected to reach a capacity of close to 1,000,000 passengers by 2020. In order to facilitate this predicted growth UNStudio has now been invited to design a large extension to the existing terminal.

Article source: NAN Architects

A work, being an event that takes place in a certain time and obey an expression of requirements and solutions, always tells a history.

The story of this book talks about how to make a virtue of necessity; constant struggle between lack of time and money always comes (we have not had any clients to give us a blank check, and on second thought, we hinder our work even more) when projected a local hostelry.

Brolettouno Apartment in Mantua, Italy by Archiplanstudio

Friday, December 15th, 2017

Article source: Archiplanstudio

The project involves the restoration of a small apartment for tourist use in the historical centre of Mantova.

The apartment BROLETTOUNO belongs to a long design research path, which emerges in various interventions on built heritage.

Basically we try to keep together two worlds, the one of the old and the one of the new, in a balance able to guarantee the identity of both of them. Light and shadow are kept together in their ambiguity and plurality, without sacrificing the reasons of one at the expense of the other.

The enchanted shed & Leopold House in Vienna, Austria by Franz&Sue

Friday, December 15th, 2017

Article source: Franz&Sue

Appreciation

The workmen from the village wanted to tear down the black shed from 1934: draughty, weather-beaten and worm-eaten it was, they said. But we liked this black outbuilding of the mansard-roof house in the Vienna Woods that we had just renovated in a radical yet respectful manner.

»An old outbuilding became a writer’s workshop, a garden room for guests, and a children’s paradise«

The special appeal of this project lies in the appreciation shown for this old outbuilding in the shadows of the Vienna Woods villas. Back in the 1930s, few people could afford a basement, let alone a garage. And so they built their own sheds to store wood, raise rabbits or boil laundry in, which was then hung up to dry in the attic.

Congress Center of The Haute Saintonge in Bordeaux, France by TETRARC

Friday, December 15th, 2017

Article source: TETRARC

Combining business, cultural and leisure activities on a single site, the Haute Saintonge Congress Centre complements the range of existing facilities and represents a unique catalyst for dynamic development, both for the municipality and for all of Haute Saintonge.

Created as a follow-up project to the “Les Antilles” aquatic complex which opened in 2002, a creation of Dutch architects Roelof and Nannie Hendricks, the Centre has to fulfil a number of requirements • express the dynamic nature of the region, • underline the exceptional character of a major public facility, • make use of its architectural style to represent the type of facility that is used (and will be used for decades to come) by managers of companies and organisations who choose to meet there, and • acquire a distinctive personality of its own without rivalling the iconic image of Les Antilles.
