EIGHT INSCRIBED HOUSES AND THREE COURTYARDS in Vecindario, Gran Canaria by Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos S.L.P.

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

Article source: Romera y Ruiz Arquitectos S.L.P.

2008 World Architecture Festival (WAF 2008). Finalist Housing category.

2008 2008 Manuel Oraá Regional Architecture Award of Canary Islands. Winner  in the New Construction Housing.

The inscribed houses, with their small boundaries, are thought and built as a microcosm. The term inscribed, borrowed from geometry, induced us to find new qualities. The confinements of the irregular and broken limits of party walls, far from being perceived as a negative quality, heightened forms and bodies to us.

DI HOUSE in Pula, Croatia by Ekokoncept d.o.o.

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Article source: Ekokoncept d.o.o.

This low-energy Mediterranean beauty is a family residence on the outskirts of Pula. The beautiful green surroundings and slightly elevated plot serve as a fantastic curtain for the modern cube the architect Tomaž Noč designed for the family. The plot was originally fenced with an old stone wall which was carefully disassembled in the beginning of the construction. The stones were then reassembled into a higher wall which serves as the backbone of the building, beginning at the pool area outside and then penetrating into the house acting as the support wall for the stairs in the living room.

Ecopole and business incubator in Concarneau, France by ENO ARCHITECTES

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Article source: ENO ARCHITECTES

Building “image”, symbolic and copy, the project is in its form and purpose, to meet these requirements : the visitor should immediately understand the nature, the DNA, of the building.  Emblematic bio climatic elements serve to the project and not the reverse.

They shape the project as well as the traditional components (wall, etc. roof).  3 requirements, 3 heights, 1 main entrance: it is the pragmatic application of the combined program bio climatic approach that guides the design of the project.

Edges Apartments in Salmiya, Kuwait by Studio Toggle

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

Article source: Studio Toggle

The ‘Edges Apartments’; with its articulated brick cladded façade; lights up one of the back-streets of the predominantly expat neighborhood of Salmiya, in Kuwait.

A simple rhythmic twist, achieved by transposition of the vertices on either side of a finite axis imparts dynamism and drama to the façade. Avery restrained palette of locally sourced natural brick and exposed concrete finish further emphasizes the massing and gives the building its unique personality.
