Casa Lineal in Lima, Peru by Metrópolis Oficina de Arquitectura

Thursday, June 30th, 2016

Article source: Metrópolis Oficina de Arquitectura

The main idea for this house was to create a concavity to get a controlled view inside the lot.

The house is a small tribute to the pursuit of Mies Van der Rohe, where the transparency and the inner courtyards  were held.

Article source: Martin Dulanto Arquitecto

A white box, a habitat platform and the space generated between both elements, composes this project.

The box is separated from the base creating a large space open to the landscape. The white block contains the master bedroom, which runs through the whole front of the house, facing the sea, and the two guest bedrooms, located on the back of the lot. These three rooms are organized around a hall, which reaches the staircase, and also connects all three levels.

The Maison des étudiants de l’École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montréal, Canada by Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes

Thursday, June 30th, 2016

Article source: v2com

After four years of work, the recent inauguration of the Maison des étudiants de l’École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) unveiled a signature building which enhances an entire neighborhood in the Griffintown district.

Inspired by an icehouse that once stood on the site, the crystal-like volume is remarkably light, open and airy. The mixed-use program was unified into a singular sculpted volume, its offsets interacting in a refreshing way with the more sober and introverted campus buildings. The massing was carved out on its south and east sides to create space for a future park that extends inside the building’s public program, maximizing sunlight and offering the community an abundantly glazed atrium that showcases student life within.

House in Gaüses, Spain by Anna & Eugeni Bach, arquitectes

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

Article source: Anna & Eugeni Bach, arquitectes

On a narrow, elongated site where a house already stood it was proposed to build a small studio that could be used as both a paint workshop and an occasional weekend home for the children of the owners.

The starting point for the project was given by the financial aspect, as it needed to be an economically viable project on a tiny budget estimated at seventy thousand euros. This factor limited both the structural possibilities and the finishes, which meant we had a very clear starting premise: we needed to work with the local industrialists (if possible from the same village), and with technical solutions that they were accustomed to, as they were the traditionally adopted ones in the typical constructions of the area. This premise led us to work with load bearing walls, single-direction forgings, aluminium windows of reasonable dimensions and conventional finishes such as painted render.

Pocket Farm in Akershus, Norway by oslo school of architecture and design

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

Article source: oslo school of architecture and design

It is said that Oslo is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe, and that building land within its natural boundaries is full. To accommodate future growth Oslo will have to look beyond, to municipalities within commuting distance. One such municipality is Nes i Akershus, one of the principal agricultural producers of grain in the country. Nes does not want to become a suburb of Oslo, so it is looking for alternative modes of accommodating additional population without losing its rural character.

Casa dos Caseiros in Campinas, Brazil by 24.7 Arquitetura

Wednesday, June 29th, 2016

Article source: 24.7 Arquitetura

“Casa dos Caseiros” was first created to answer a private order for a social interest dwelling project to be built numerously throughout some cities in Rio de Janeiro state. Unfortunately after some time of development the project had to be canceled by the contractor.

Originally it was designed using steel frame as structural system, after cancelation we have updated the whole project to use structural concrete blocks, more usual in Brazilian construction, and still a rational modular building system. The project was set aside for a while until came the opportunity to build one unit as a prototype and still be used as home for the housekeepers of a property in a rural district from Campinas.
