Footbridge Ribja brv in Ljubljana, Slovenia by Arhitektura d.o.o.

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Article source: Arhitektura d.o.o.

It is often believed that Plečnik was inspired by Venice and its bridges in his rearrangement of Keller’s concrete river bed of Ljubljanica. What exactly Plečnik had in mind, we do not know today but one thing is certain: due to Plečnik’s interventions the ambience and layout of Ljubljanica riverside has a Venetian flair. As in Venice, Plečnik envisaged and placed several new bridges over the river. Two of them, namely the Triple Bridge and the Shoemakers’ bridge, were realized as public areas, new public spaces, which were liberated from the river and given to the citizens.

SIOFOK PLAZA in Hungary by A4 studio Ltd.

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Article source: A4 studio Ltd.

Already more than 200 years, Siófok is the Capital City of Lake Balaton, which is the largest lake in Middle-East Europe. We planned the “Sió Pláza” Shopping Centre into the middle of the renewable main square of the centre of the renewable downtown. The modern XXI. Century building is situated between the two historical symbols of the city, the Water Tower, was built in 1912, and the Pub, was built in 1895. Our aim was to plan a building that communicates with its environment, the historical city centre, continuously. We developed a transparent glass facade towards the main square of the city, with a cobweb-like metal screen. The shops were strung on 3 levels onto the inner shopping arcade of the shopping centre. The food and drug store received place on the minus first floor, the restaurant, branch and other services on the ground floor and the first floor. The entertainment (cinema, bowling, restaurants) is situated in the supreme floor. The building of the old Pub is integrated into the new building by the inner shopping arcade. The new functions are a bookshop and a cafe, with own garden. The remaining facades are planted with green plants.

Mother & Child welfare center in Paris, France by Rh+ architecture

Sunday, October 26th, 2014

Article source: Rh+ architecture

The project is located in the south of Paris, in a small curved street, surrounded by historical and typical french buildings of the industrial period. The low density of the neighborhood, the street shape in addition to a 2.5m difference in height give the impression of a small provincial town. In fact, the curve of the Gustave Geoffroy street gives this execeptional site several constraints that have to be used to generate a well-integrated project to its urban fabric.

Quezon daycenter in Philippines by Yuusuke Karasawa Architects

Friday, October 24th, 2014

Article source: Yuusuke Karasawa Architects

This facility is a day care center planned in the city of Quezon, located north-east of Manila, Philippines. The Philippine day care center, while its main function is a kindergarten/nursery, it also provides lodgings for the socially vulnerable and serves as a town community center. By having multiple functions, the day care center is more than just a nursery—it is a ”multi-purpose housing” made available for the city’s residents. It is a place where neighbors communicate with each other, a place of life and activities for the children and people without family. There, what is being contemplated is the proper way of a public “housing” that also provides communal functionalism.

Holiday Inn Express in Clarke Quay, Singapore by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd

Friday, October 24th, 2014

Article source: RSP Architects Planners & Engineers

The new Holiday Inn Express hotel projects a distinct, geometrical facade that is engaging, generating a new buzz in the vibrant Clarke Quay neighbourhood within the city centre. Completed in February 2014, within a site area of 11,555 m2, the design approach for this seven-storey hotel has been largely driven by the urban design requirements and technical conditions for the site. Its striking facade comprising of hotel room windows tilted and inclined at an angle, creates an identity of its own along Clemenceau Avenue. The design is firmly rooted in keeping the rooms shaded as much as possible from the direct and harsh afternoon sun as a large part of the Clemenceau Avenue elevation is west facing. The resultant facade is expressive, providing rooms across this elevation about 95% shade for more than half the year.
