Castelo Branco Office Park in São Paulo, Brazil by Girimun Architects

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Girimun Architects

Taking the 2 existing buildings as a starting point, we have created a phased commercial development with additional 6 office and hotel towers in a total of 240,000 sqm stretching along 500m. The towers are laid out in a soft rotation angle from each other so to allow more space between them, guarantee open views, and create a dynamic outdoor inner space rich in landscape, water features, canopied walkways and supportive retail.  The later twin towers sit on a retail podium that gradually steps up amidst recreational open courtyards to overcome the existing 12m level gap on site.

Gubei Mixed-use Master Plan in Shanghai, China by Girimun Architects

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Girimun Architects

This master plan in West Shanghai capitalises on the potential synergy between various programmatic functions and urban transport network links to create a truly mixed-use environment with fully integrated business, shopping and entertainment activities. A large public space featuring event zones, amphitheatres, waterscapes and soft loans sits atop a double platform over an operative train depot. The technical complexities of the site and coordination with various existing infrastructures make of this development a remarkable achievement.

The Sun Totems by Michael Jantzen

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Michael Jantzen

Sun Totems are public art sculptures that generate electricity from the sun for the communities in which they are installed, and at the same time function as public gathering places. The steel structures are constructed from a prefabricated modular design, which allows for a great deal of size, shape, and color variations. The sculptures can be placed almost anywhere since they are assembled onto a prefabricated circular concrete foundation pad. Each of the sculptures are fitted with varying numbers of photovoltaic panels that convert sun light into electricity, which is sent into the local power grid. Seats are also formed into the base of each of the sculptures.

House Husarö in Stockholm archipelago, Sweden by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Tham & Videgård Arkitekter

The location is the outer Stockholm archipelago. Tall pines give the forested site an untouched character. The house is placed in a clearing with a high position in the landscape, on a plateau facing the sea in the north. The property has been in the family for a long time with a couple of small complementary buildings, a boathouse and a guesthouse, that has been used for vacation stays. As the family grew with a new generation, the need for a larger house with more space followed.

Hofsos swimming pool in Iceland by BASALT Arkitektar

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: BASALT Arkitektar

Hofsos is a small fishing village in the northern part of Iceland. It consists of small scale traditional Icelandic houses from the early twenties. The small scale of the surrounding village has been an inspiration in the design process of the swimming pool.
The site of the pool is by the coast on the main street leading to the village. From the site there is a magnificent view towards the Atlantic Ocean where the island Drangey lies in the horizon. In the wintertime the distant lights from the village of Saudarkrokur can be seen on the opposite shore.

Tianjin Riverside 66 in China by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF)

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF)

“Now that the structural frame is complete, to wander inside a series of curved concrete ribs is something like it must be to see a whale skeleton from the inside. Herman Melville would be inspired.” Design Principal James von Klemperer

On September 26th Tianjin celebrates the Grand Opening of Riverside 66. The 350-meter long megastructrure will now complete the final phase of the He Ping Lu pedestrian boulevard, becoming the centerpiece of the new commercial district while marking its presence monumentally from the revitalized Hai He River and creating a new public experience for the city.“The project itself is conceived of as public space where the building intentionally engages the urban traffic and fosters user interaction,” says Jeffrey Kenoff, Director and Senior Designer at KPF. “Clearly the project needed to operate for a retail and multi program environment, but it also wanted to be a social network to embrace, represent and activate a local community.”
