Maritime Station in Baiona, Spain by Santos y Mera Arquitectos S.L.P.

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: Santos y Mera Arquitectos S.L.P.

This is a building for Maritime Station in the port of Baiona, for lines of passenger ships operating in this area of Rias Baixas, located on a dam in the center of the port, between the village and sea. It is a construction that protects, that wrap, but allowing the user direct relationship with the outside without isolation of a privileged environment. The building is treated as a longitudinal street that runs through the entire building and their main entrances on the headwalls, but accessible by several points, allowing the user to move freely, at all time, and allowing a clear view of the berthing areas. The wood box, works as a large lattice and sun protection of the building, so allows a nice integration with the environment in which it is situated, setting up part of the landscape from a distance, on the approach from the sea.

Apartment remodelling in Prague, Letna by FAM Architekti

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: FAM Architekti

The 100sqm apartment is located in a functionalist building near Letenske Sady. The building designed by the functionalist architect Jan Gillar was completed in 1938. The apartment was originally designed for a couple with a maid, who had a small room adjacent to the kitchen. The narrow plan spans through the whole apartment block in the form of three large rooms, separated by generous glazed double doors. The centre of the apartment faces a large lightwell clad in ceramic tiles, which allows for cross ventilation and some daylight. The rooms have typical functionalist horizontal windows, with a lower cill in the main living room.

Everton Well-being Centre in Scarborough, England by Studio Maurice Shapero

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: Studio Maurice Shapero

The idea is to address the duality of an open community building with the introverted / confidential nature of a Doctors practice. The triangular form is open at each end, but closed along its length. Extrusions are inherently both open and closed. Each end contains public halls with out door rooms (open) and the central area the surgeries (closed). The West end is open to St Anthony’s façade with an outdoor room for waiting and contemplation.

This building is a long roof………everyone, both patients and doctors, under the same roof.

LONE RANGER HOT DOG SHOP in Shanghai, China by LINEHOUSE

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: LINEHOUSE

LINEHOUSE was asked to create a new modern fast food identity for Lone Ranger; a hot dog shop, incorporating a wild west theme. Replacing the entire façade of the shop located at the waterfront of the Hangpu River, Shanghai, LINEHOUSE created a playful composition of white timber weatherboards, raw timber, and custom printed tiles featuring an arrowhead motif. The exterior is composed of opening doors and shutter panels, which when opened reveals the continuous tile pattern which wraps the counters and floors. The exterior counters seats 6 with a further 6 seats inside. The 4m high ceiling void is painted a bright yellow with a woven rope structure which creates an apparatus for the lights to hang from.

Mid-Town Triplex in Ontario, Canada by Studio JCI

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: Studio JCI

The Mid-Town Triplex is an example of urban intensification in an established Toronto neighborhood, providing the Clients with both a principle residence and high value income suites that add to the quality and variety of rental options in the city.  The triplex comprises a basement 1-bedroom unit, a ground floor two-bedroom unit, and a 2300sf, two-storey, 3-bedroom unit for the homeowners. The existing two-storey, brick structure is one of many similar houses in the neighborhood, with a pitched roof and raised front porch with steps.  Sensitivity to surrounding context is a key consideration in the design – existing brick is reused and restored while articulating the additions and incisions in the façade with clean, rectangular volumes.  This juxtaposition clearly highlights new from old while maintaining the cadence of the streetscape. At the ground level, a canopy integrates the separate entries to each unit, creating a singular address for the house. The Clients believe that the good design and quality finishes specified by the architect resulted in higher value – confirmed upon the quick rental of the rental suites above market appraisal.

Un Eco House in Podgorica, Montenegro by Architekt Daniel Fügenschuh ZT GmbH

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

Article source: Architekt Daniel Fügenschuh ZT GmbH

Urban context

The site is situated adjacent to the river Moraca with its picturesque and park like river landscape. To the North it is neighbouring the new millennium bridge a landmark suspension bridge with a span of 140 Metres and a 57 Metre high Pylon. Our proposal for the new UN-headquarter for Montenegro is to lower the landscape to the level of a proposed promenade walkway for pedestrians and cyclists connecting the city centre with its surrounding hinterland along the river.

Article source: RTA-Office

We understand the whole as an exquisitely meticulous sculpture that contains space and hosts knowledge.

Our intention is to convey a strong character and presence for the building, exemplifying how it as an urban cultural container. The building stands as an entity able to transcend from the local to the provincial scale, capable of reflecting the collective consciousness, feelings, and future visions of the Chinese society.
