The Nobel Bros in Leiden, The Netherlands by Ector Hoogstad Architecten

Thursday, March 26th, 2015

Article source: Ector Hoogstad Architecten

A real student city has a flourishing pop scene, and Leiden is no exception. Already in 1969 there was the ‘Kreatief Sentrum’ [‘Creative Centre’] on Breestraat, later renamed as the Leids Vrijetijds Centrum. Thirty-five years later, the same organisation has a brand new building in the historic centre and a new name: Gebr. de Nobel, after the brothers who had a rags and scrap-metal business, well-known throughout Leiden, on precisely the same spot.

House in Nogyang, South Korea by studio_GAON

Thursday, March 26th, 2015

Article source: studio_GAON

‘House in Nogyang‘ is facing the boundary of the green belt, which boundary that the city can’t expand anymore. It is close to downtown but quiet, near to an apartment complex, elementary school, and Nogyang station.

This house is for three generations: three children, a couple, and their old mother. Each of them wanted their own room, and also has enough room for their basic living space, but the site area was 147㎡, which was pretty small. Besides, they had money for the building area could be only 147㎡, while some part of the land was scheduled to be transferred to a planned road. We just have had to find a way while building the house just to fit in the land.

Article source: AMB arkitekter

Fornebu S is the latest contribution to Fornebulandet, a peninsula alongside Oslofjord, currently in the process of urban renewal. The centre’s strategic siting gives residents of Snarøya and Fornebu access to a much needed shopping precinct and meeting place. The main square provides an active connection to the centre and an important node for the orientation and gathering of people in the area. The square consists of restaurants, cafes and a cultural arena to magnify the bustling life of the area both during and after closing times.

Izabelin House by REFORM Architekt Marcin Tomaszewski

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015

Article source: REFORM Architekt Marcin Tomaszewski

The Izabelin House is a two story mirror house concept that is formed of two horizontally configured blocks. The house’s lower storey is clad with reflective paneling. These mirrored surfaces appear as an extension of the forest floor, with opaque areas stacked above. The bottom level includes also a sheltered terrace in a shade of dark brown wood that matches the surrounding earth. The second floor appears to float above its mirrored base, a levitating box that will hover in the thick forest.
