EM35 CITYVILLA in Metzingen, Germany by Steimle architekten

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Steimle architekten

The strict building regulations reduced the design margins. From these requirements, the architects developed a three dimensional structure that stands out for its sculptural character. The starting point was the clear shape of a cube whose edges follow the building lines and the instructions to the roof design. As with a sculptural work the corners are cut out creating differently proportioned indoor and outdoor spaces. The living area is placed on the top floor, a flowing space that narrows and widens or opens into a corner. Built-in furniture divide the smooth transitions between the different residential areas. The deep cut terraces offer either private or through openable glazing, rubbing shoulders with the city and adjoining vineyard.  The strict building regulations reduced the design margins. The Equalizer in Jatiwaringin by Delution Architect

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Delution Architect

The Equalizer is a philosophical concept representing three different activities as the core activities held in the building i.e. Musical studies, movies and ballet. The three core activities are about rhythm therefor the architect took Equalizer as the philosophical concept. The building has three stories and the front view is different from the side views. The left side of the building has high covers until the third floor while the right side has shorter cover yet they still have the same total number of floors. The massing of the building is separated into two parts, one part is elongated upwards and the other on is elongated forward. The concept if the building is semi industrial thus some details are left unfinished. The building has a movie room on the first floor, recording music studio on the second floor and a ballet studio on the third floor. The building façade is covered with terracotta shaded bricks arranged in an equalizer-like shape as a representation of the three main activities in this building.

YUNNAN MUSEUM in Kunming, China by ROCCO DESIGN ARCHITECTS LIMITED

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: ROCCO DESIGN ARCHITECTS LIMITED

The generative concept of the museum is derived from the potent imagery of Yunnan’s famed local “stone forests”, the dramatic geography of raw, powerful beauty of the geological landscapes sculpted by nature over millennia, and the idea of stacked boxes holding fragile treasures, giving the architecture its defining metaphor as an assembled container of artifacts – a group of spatial volumes that congregates to form a larger mass, where individual pieces are still evident.

Pedestrian & cyclist bridge Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy by Studio PP8

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Studio PP8

The footbridge by studio PP8 was created as part of the city of Milan’s ongoing urban plan. The steel structure crosses the A8 motorway at Arese, giving a safe passage to pedestrians and cyclists to the Milan expo area. The footbridge is composed of cross steel tubes, with corrugated steel slabs on two levels, one for foot traffic and the other for bikers. To avoid uncomfortable acceleration produced by running people it was inserted a TMD (Tuned Mass Daper) just under the corrugated steel slab, in the middle of the main span.

Ekklesia in Valencia, Spain by Pink Intruder

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Pink Intruder

It is an installation made with cardboard tubes with a metallic appearance atop a mosaic made of 96,000 wooden pieces.

During the Fallas festival in Valencia held every year the ultimate goal of these installations is to be burned to celebrate the arrival of spring.  In this context we built a structure entirely of cardboard and wood joints. The purpose was to investigate to what extent we could carry up this type of structure, and also to place in a traditional context a contemporary image to provoke the debate between tradition and modernity.

CONCERT HALL in Águilas, Spain by Estudio Barozzi Veiga

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Estudio Barozzi Veiga

The auditorium’s duality arises from the contradiction of its site. On the edge of town, the auditorium faces two realities: the beauty of the coastal landscape and the harsh and fragmented urban context.

SCROLL HUT in Tokyo, Japan by EP3

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: EP3

OUTLINE

This project is a self-build pavilion on campus. Responding to the light, it shows unique morphing between different geometries. One is the fern, biological swirl form, and the other is the roof, architectural triangular form. These traditional design motifs seamlessly merge into a livable architecture by using today’s electronic technologies.
