Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

Article source: Paolo Venturella Architecture

The main concept of the pavillion is to create two different spaces. One for the exhibition and another one for a big greenhouse. They are connected to allow people to walk in a unique single space. The greenhouse is the place where people can pick up and eat food directly from the hortus.

The biggest challenge of the project was to develop a program for home and workspace, with the complexity involved in designing both uses in parallel. This complex program was to be located within a small plot, for a dwelling under 200m2,that would leave, at the same time, a courtyard for meetings.

The Revolving TV Restaurant by Michael Jantzen

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

Article source: Michael Jantzen

About 35 years ago Michael Jantzen designed the concept for a windowless revolving restaurant that would replace its windows with large video screens. This was of course before the Internet, HDTV, etc. The basic idea was that instead of building a structure high enough to place a restaurant on top (in order to get a great view) he would mount real time video cameras onto the top of a tall support tower built into the center of the restaurant, which was to be constructed on the ground level. The real time view seen by the cameras on top of the tower would be sent down into the perimeter of the restaurant. The cameras would be slowly rotating so that the customers inside of the restaurant would feel as though the entire building was rotating.

Article source: penda.

The cola-bow is a public art installation made out of more than 17.000 recycled plastic bottles, which were braided to create a shape inspired by the swings of the Coca-Cola logo.

More than 17.000 bottles were collected by a joint initiative of universities around Beijing and Coca-Cola China to give citizens a bottle of Coke for every 10 empty ones brought back to a recycling spot. The amount of collected plastic bottles ended up in an entrance conopy to the 2nd universal university creation expo.

This is a house for a single person, built in a quiet residential area in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. The exterior walls use dark brown Galvalume steel in a length-wise, lateral direction, in order to blend into the atmosphere of fleshpots surrounded with black board fences. Galvanized steel sheets are used for exterior walls next to the entrance and around the garage. By using a combination of different steel sheets, a playful contrast is created.

After purchasing a discarded construction trailer for just €15, owners Kris and Griet together with Ghent-based architect practice Karel Verstraeten have transformed it into an inhabitable space.

Wanting to create a small dwelling that could be used for either studying and resting or partying, the unit was pulled to the back of the garden by a local farmer. Its existing structure was completely stripped back and replaced with new materials.
