This is an interior design for a boutique in Kusatsu, Shiga, that sells clothing, kitchen, and household items, focusing mainly on apparel.
Inspired by the items that the shop sells, we sought to construct a space based on the abstract theme of whether it would be possible to visualize a peaceful atmosphere.
We derived various usable dimensions from the existing frame structure and the buried and hidden facilities, derived a uniform grid of marble tiles that would be the base, and generated volume using compositional rules to give a sense of tension.
We then added finely textured materials and natural and artificial light to compose a space where tension and softness coexist.
The client approached us to design their main office in a new space they had purchased to fulfill their growing needs. At our disposal was a tight commercial space and overwhelming spatial requirements. So our initial thought process started by segregating their functional requirements and defining a smooth circulation between various departments. The visitor and back end staff movements were defined and spaces were assigned accordingly.
The design of Casa Vereda arises from the idea of hosting the social spaces of the house, in such a way that the rest of the areas are articulated through it. In such a way that the formal solution is the conceptual result of a clamp that takes as its main element the living room, the double-height dining room, and the direct contact with the garden as content and the rest of the house as container.
‘When I was serving as a rookie private in the korean army I made a good friend with a sergeant who was very kind and open minded,’ explains moon hoon, who designed the project alongside moohoi. ‘we ran into each other few years ago on the street near my home and was informed that he had started a sesame oil business which was based on a new approach. to my surprise, in 2017, he visited my office and commissioned a headquarter building for his business, which included a flagship store and a factory.’
This is a small house with a total floor area of 50 square meters in a densely populated area in Tokyo. As the surrounding houses close in, we set back the outer wall and lowered the roof as if to counter the smallness of the house. It is a home that comes with a small outdoor space that is not exactly a roof terrace, but is designed to have no specific function.
The client, a couple in their 40’s, got hold of this land and requested to build a house for two. However, it is not to be a permanent residence, but a temporary abode that would accommodate their near-future plan to return to the countryside where their parents live, and possibly give up this Tokyo residence. While the couple are both full-time workers, they also like to enjoy such things as going to the public bath and eating out often. They wanted an open and compact house that is designed to take advantage of the city life.
Cukrarna is a former sugar refinery, built in 1828 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. During its’ two-hundred-year history, it was a sugar refinery, destroyed in a disastrous fire, and later a tobacco factory, a textile factory, a military barracks, and a homeless shelter. The Rice Barn House design is largely driven by responding to the site’s environmental condition and by embracing the inherited local construction methodology. Our approach seeks to fuse Indonesia’s vernacular architecture with contemporary building technology to accommodate today’s living lifestyle. Thus, we incorporated traditionalism by using distinct cultural form typologies, synthetized with modern materiality selections.
Petroleum is a project for the reconstruction and modernization of Ins Petrol office building. The concept of the project is inspired by petroleum, its aesthetic qualities and wide use as a production raw material. Petroleum is an architectural story about oil and its fluid, dynamic, living aesthetics, metaphorically transformed into bespoke furniture, literally used in the structure of the selected materials.

With the National Museum, which combines two new museums for the display of China’s cultural heritage, the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) have completed an important component of the new cultural quarter in the Olympic Green in Beijing. The external design makes reference to the function of the building, which with its changing color and light effects created by the sculptural structuring of the facade is clearly visible from near and far.
The museum building marks the northern end of Beijing’s Central Axis and is not far from the National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest, and the Asia Financial Center & AIIB Headquarters completed by gmp in 2021. For the first time, an opportunity is provided to present valuable collections of Chinese arts and crafts and items of intangible cultural heritage at national level.
The interior design of the restaurant is a special subject in the field of interior design. The personalization of these premises depends on several factors such as: location, kitchen and target audience. In the case of Blue River restaurant, the inspiration came from the view that opens behind the window.
Located on the bank of the Dniester River, the restaurant borrows the colour range and decorative elements of the interior from nature. The panoramic windows contribute to an ideal fusion with the entourage. To add to this feeling, we personalized individual elements of the interior as much as possible. The colours of the finishing materials are strongly related to the natural framework. We opted for calm hues levitating between sand-coloured grey and brown, but which emanate elegance. The colours of the furniture represent a mix of beige, grey and turquoise. The neutrality of the colours is heated by the structure of the wood.
