Cotacachi House in Imbabura, Ecuador by Arquitectura X

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Article source: Arquitectura X

A couple from the Caribbean seek retreat amid the northern Andes in a small town, two hours north of Quito, an orchard site in a valley 2470 meters above sea level, between the Imbabura and Cotacachi mountains, to the east and west respectively. The couple needs a design proposal in 4 days before going home, or they will sell the site: we have to design a house without knowing the site and after meeting the couple for two hours.

VALLECAS 47 in Madrid, Spain by Estudio UNTERCIO

Friday, March 1st, 2013

Article source: Estudio UNTERCIO

We tried to imagine, all of us together, a dwelling in which we would like to live. Bright and open to meet with friends some of us said, intimate and in semidarkness, the laziest ones replied. A dwelling with a multiple personality. One that would be able to react to the changing seasons. One that would open itself to two different environments; on one side, a street belonging to a new urban development, but close to the urban life of Vallecas Village, and on the other side, a bounded and safe courtyard.

Article source: Cherem Arquitectos

Located near ‘ El Zocalo’, right in the heart of the old city where the Aztecs first settled and afterwards the Spaniards built churches and palaces using the existing stones that were part of the Aztec pyramids. “Downtown” is settled on a magnificent palace, witness of the XVII century architecture. Known as the “Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle”, the red volcanic rock walls, the multiple doors, window quarry frames and the handmade cement tiles, along with the glorious patios and a spectacular stone-forge staircase provide the building the unique flavor of the Mexican vice regal style.

Microsoft Milan in Italy by Flores Prats Arquitectos

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Article source: Flores Prats Arquitectos

In 2007 Microsoft Italia chose to establish its headquarters in a rural landscape characterized by the seasonally shifting pattern of agricultural production. The proposal focused on the condition of agricultural fringe, an opportunity to create a transition; to create a meeting point between two technologies, working the fields and working with computers. These two realms of technology develop in parallel, with neither prevailing over the other.

House of Would in Madrid, Spain by Elii

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Article source: Elii

This house is located in a 1,316 m2 sloping plot of land in the district of Pedrezuela,45 km north of Madrid. There is little to no vegetation in the section closest to the street, which nevertheless provides a good viewpoint on the surrounding lush natural landscape.

The building is made up of seven wooden-structure modules symmetrically identical surrounding a central court. Each module is dedicated to a different domestic situation, according to its functional needs. The modular structure, as well as the scale of the rooms allows the alteration of this functional logic, serving as a support for possible future layouts.

Sumo Sushi & Bento in Jumeirah Town Centre, Dubai by theWorkshop Design Consultancy FZE

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Article source: theWorkshop Design Consultancy FZE

Prior to franchising the business, the Town Centre outlet was developed to establish the interior design identity of SUMO Sushi & Bento. Located in the centre of the mall’s octogonal atrium, the architecture for this first branch is a direct response to the existing context.

A sushi bar and satellite kitchen are placed on centre to act as the focal point, and the various seating arrangements are designed around the perimeter of the tenancy. Cantilevered and decorative light fittings compensate for the lack of a ceiling and introduce a sense of scale for the end user.

Diderot University – M6A1 Building in Paris, France by Jean-Baptiste Lacoudre Architectures

Thursday, February 28th, 2013

Article source: Jean-Baptiste Lacoudre Architectures

In an objective of sobriety and obviousness, this building of 20 meters large associates three antinomics functions, (teaching, sporting room, car park) which overlap by strata and maintain their autonomy to gather into a coherent whole.
A work on permeability and successives spaces dig the matter, filte the light and open this “monolith” on the garden and the city.
