Workshop Siegen in Germany by Ian Shaw Architekten

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Article source: Ian Shaw Architekten

This scheme’s abstract form references the classic garage format with forecourt. The simple steel frame structure is clad in translucent panels to reduce energy consumption and facilitate productivity. At night, the workshop functions as a light beacon, illuminating the main entrance to the industrial complex. Internally, the building’s skin delivers a defused light, creating a relaxed environment in which to work, uncluttered by the visual harshness of the industrial surroundings.

The commission is originated by the need from the school to augment the total surface of the courtyard that due to the great amount of students and parents that usually gather during the day, can sometimes obstruct the correct developing of the sports and leisure activities that should take place in it. The courtyard is 33 meters wide per 35 meters long and has a South East Orientation. It is formed by the existing school that has a U form with two wings, one from the 50´s and another one form the 70´s.

The University Of Versailles Science Library in France by Badia Berger Architectes

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Article source: Badia Berger Architectes

SITE | the articulation of the building with its environment
The site, situated on the campus of the University of Versailles, falls within the historical district of the Château de Versailles which imposes, amongst many constraints, minimal building heights. The campus itself is a historical domain having been the property of the car manufacturing family Panhard. In the nineteen sixties, buildings on campus were built around the « historical centre », constituted by the Panhard pavilion and its gardens. Devoid of any particular character, these structures do not impart a strong identity to the campus.

Hobro Mid-Town in Denmark by Schonherr and Holscher Arkitekter

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Article source: Holscher Arkitekter

Team Schonherr’s proposal is best practice as to how a historical center can be reunited with the habour that once put the city on the map. This is done by the new urban spaces inheriting qualities from the historic center. Not by miming the historic town’s architecture, but through detailed planning to achieve spatial qualities of the historic town. Hobro town centre is converted to realize the potential of the town centre and restore physical, visual and social links between the port and the town. At the same time, the project handles the traffic of the town centre optimally, without creating new barriers.

Article source: A2OFFICE

A small space with just over 20m ² was the site for the deployment of this kiosk in the Casa da Música Metro Station in the city of Porto, Portugal. This project was based on the idea of “pause”. Pause between commuting routes (home-work-home, home-school-home, etc.) where one color dominates: the yellow. As in the trilogy of chromatic lights os the semaphores, symbolizes a moment of pause, is among the movement and stopping.

Holmsheidi Prison in Reykjavik, Iceland by ARKÍS Architects

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Article source: ARKÍS Architects

The design of the prison is based on three key elements. First, is a main guard station as a central cylindrical form washed by daylight from a surrounding skylight. The skylight and guard station rise up from the building as a smooth cone, contrasting the buildings sharp edges. The second set of elements is internal courtyards forming the heart of each cell block. The courtyards let daylight into the cell blocks, allowing the possibility to spend time outdoors and in some cases; prisoners enjoy views into the courtyards.
