The Hidden House in London, England by AR Design Studio

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: AR Design Studio

AR Design Studio is delighted to announce the recent planning approval for its latest project, The Hidden House.

Situated in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Hidden House is a four bedroom home that has been fastidiously engineered to sit seamlessly within its stunning surroundings. Set on a disused riding school that was once a scar upon the countryside, the house has been designed to complete the landscape. The house’s geometry was informed by the North Downs’ geological arrangements. By embracing the erosion patterns of the area, the form was sculpted to become a continuation of the hill in which it sits. Taking further measures to blend the house in to the landscape, the project form uses ‘Dazzle Camouflage’, a tactic employed by ships during the First World War to deceive the eye and create illusions that help break up the solid mass.

Duplex & the City in Sydney, Australia by Luigi Rosselli Architects

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Luigi Rosselli Architects

Equivalent to the brownstones of New York, this interwar duplex is a humane scale solution to housing in the Sydney city fringes.

Shoulder to shoulder with other apartment buildings, the original 1920s two-storey flats were transformed into a four storey block with a basement carpark and cellar, a ground floor garden apartment and a two-storey penthouse.

The scissor balconies of the back elevation are angled to offer side views while maintaining the building’s rear alignment with the neighbouring properties. The Council thought but resisted the tempation to emacitate the elevation by cutting it back to a flat façade. River Heights Residences in Taiyuan, China by People’s Architecture Office

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: People’s Architecture Office

In a context of emptiness, 10,000 people are housed in 600,000sqm of residential development. The River Heights Residences, approaching the size of New York City’s Rockefeller Center, are located in an undeveloped suburban plot on the outskirts of Taiyuan, China. The project is an assemblage of mini-towers that promotes urban living and achieves a ‘metropolitan’ presence in a tabula rasa environment. By privileging collective form over the individual tower, the River Heights Residences express a unified and articulated skyline of mini-towers.

House 28 in Brasília DF, Brasil by Equipe Lamas

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Equipe Lamas

The architecture of the House 28 is an extension of the arid and lush landscape from the Cerrado Biome. A family that sought tranquility and connection with nature commissioned this urban refuge located 10 minutes away from the national congress of Brasilia.

The area of 7000 m2 enabled to spread 850m2 of construction on the ground. Gardens permeate the volumetry and generous windows of wood and glass connect the interior to the landscape.

Les Closiaux in Clamart, France by Dominique Coulon & associés

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Dominique Coulon & associés

The building is located in a 1950s residential area in the Paris suburbs. The large sports hall is positioned at the far end of the site, giving the street a degree of amplitude and generating a public space which reinforces the building’s status as a community facility. The volume of the accommodation is in keeping with the houses in the neighbourhood. The fragmentation of the programmes produces a displacement between the two volumes, offering glimpses of the central part of the site and opening up views towards the gardens.

Police Station in Salt, Spain by Josep Ferrando + Sergi Serrat

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Josep Ferrando

The site

The new police station is located on the outskirts of the neighborhood in a zone reserved for council buildings. The proposal is placed in a pre-existing grove of magnificent beech trees that determine the main decisions for the project. The main building mass is concentrated at the north end of the site, in the unoccupied area, while the car park is organized around the grove. The remainder of the site forms a green cushion that separates the building from the road becoming a transition space for the visitors.

Solar house in Vens Valle D’aosta, Italy by Studio Albori

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: Studio Albori

The project originates from the stunning view offered by the site and the particular generosity of its exposition to the sun. The house is situated at 1750 metres above sea level, in Valle d’Aosta, behind the small village of Vens, facing an arc of mountains stretching from Monte Emilius to the massif of Gran Paradiso and Grivola. The wooden frame which constitutes the weight-bearing structure is visible on the south façade – which all the internal rooms look onto – consisting in the main of windows and is open to the sun and the landscape, while it is completed with a wooden casing with robust isolation on the other sides. Solar energy is used here in three different ways: direct accumulation through the windows on the south façade, stored and released slowly by the mineral salts contained in the PCM (Phase Change Material) panes which complete the façade, transformed into electricity by the photovoltaic panels placed on the roof. The only other source of energy used by the house is the wood for the cooking stove, situated on the ground floor. The wood used in the structure and on the façades is local larch, which is untreated and unpainted.

Most of the house furniture was constructed by us with scrap materials.

Half Roof House in VinhLong city, Vietnam by AD+studio

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Article source: AD+studio

The “HALF ROOF” language beginning from the existing house will make renovation house modern but familiar which still keeps most of the living style as well as the memories of its owner.

For the first time coming here, we have the feeling about the depth of an “aged” house which is filled with its owners’ habit and memories from the very first years after Liberation.
