Ecole de Riddes in Switzerland by R2A architectes

Friday, October 6th, 2017

Article source: R2A architectes

This primary school is the first project of our young architecture office.

The square. Built as a very compact structure, the new primary school inserts itself into the village. Regarding its scale and position the building conveniently interacts with the existing school and the smaller village housing. The project offers a whole new public space that provides a renewed articulation between the school center and the village. Taking advantage of the two different levels between the schoolyard and the village square, the underground lobby connects the old school to the new one.

Omke Jan in Woudsend, The Netherlands by Eek en Dekkers (Piet Hein Eek Architecture)

Article source: Eek en Dekkers (Piet Hein Eek Architecture)

In June 2014 we were asked to devise a plan for the renovation of a historic farmhouse (1904) in the Friesian town of Woudsend. The client wanted to turn it into a vibrant meeting place, in which the handicrafts and food from the surrounding area play a central role. The milk and meat come from the Friesian cow, the flour from the mill in the village, the wood from the adjacent mill and you can catch your own eel and smoke it in the smokehouse down the road.

The Pedestrian Skywalk in Delhi, India by Chaukor Studio

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

Article source: Chaukor Studio

The development of various public transport modes in the metropolitan city of Delhi like railway line, Delhi metro, bus stops and auto-rickshaw stands has increased the number of pedestrians on the roads. Due to no proper walking space for the pedestrians on most of the major road junctions in the city, the intersection of the vehicular traffic with the pedestrians causes a call for alarm towards the safety of the people.

Is there an eco-friendly approach to address this problem without further compromising the safety of pedestrians and also help in revitalizing the city?

Hut in Tsujido, Japan by Naoi Architecture & Design Office

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

Article source: Naoi Architecture & Design Office

The site of this project was a vacant, untouched plot of land next to the existing suburban residence. Fortunately, the surrounding of the site is under the management of the city authority as a green space, and it will be kept as it is in the future–therefore the client hoped to maintain the feel of nature in their daily lives, while enjoying the time spending on gardening or having meals outside of the house. Then, we proposed a simple, hut-like residence corresponding to the scenery; from inside, the surrounding nature is to be enjoyed as a view; when staying outside, being the integral part of the nature is to be appreciated.
