Taliesin Mod.Fab by Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Article source: Victor Sidy

The Taliesin Mod.Fab is an example of simple, elegant, and sustainable living. The one-bedroom, 600-square-foot prototype residence relies on panelized construction to allow for speed and economy on site or in a factory. It can be connected to utilities or be \”unplugged,\” relying on low-consumption fixtures, rainwater harvesting, greywater re-use, natural ventilation, solar orientation, and photovoltaics to reduce energy and water use. The structure is dimensioned and engineered to be transportable via roadway.

Skate Park House in Shibuya, Tokyo by Level Architects

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Article source: Level Architects

The owners of this house, a young married couple, made a special request in regards to the design of their house, located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Shibuya ward. They wanted both a skateboard park and a piano rehearsal room to reflect their own individual interests.
There was no need for a car park on the site, so to take advantage of space a private entrance courtyard was designed. The sliding glass panels of the first floor open up onto this enclosed area and allows for the workshop and studio to expand outwards. The studio has a skateboard bowl imbedded into the floor with multiple angles for plenty of different interaction.

Montrose Feature in Bishopscourt, South Africa by SAOTA

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Article source: SAOTA

High on the ridge of Bishopscourt in Cape Town, this unique site resulted from the demolition of an existing house. The site was divided by the existing driveway, which rose steeply from the end of the cul-de-sac below. The new building’s form, perched as it is in a commanding position, was perceived from the outset to be a pavilion overlooking the lawns and the forested valley below.

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Article source: Klingmann Architects & Brand Consultants

In order to balance a respect for history and tradition with the need to create a modern neighborhood, the design takes cues from the regional architecture and builds on the best practices in contemporary architecture. The aspiration for the project is to build a sustainable development that is of high quality while being cost-efficient. The community is organized according to the principles of the Arabic courtyard house, a response that is sensitive to the culture and climate of the place.

Cloudhaus in New York City by Art Meadow

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Article source: Matthew Hoffman

CLOUDHAUS takes the rich history and deep meaning associated with Sukkahs and reimagines their role in today’s history.

The divine shelter of the Clouds of Glory elevated the Jews to a level of pure holiness, or Kedusha, and the Sukkah does the same. During Sukkot we are not merely reminded of the Clouds of Glory and our potential to attain Kedusha, we are temporarily elevated to that very same level.
