ROCK-SETTE in Istanbul, Turkey by Dinkoff Architects & Engineers Inc.

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Article source: Dinkoff Architects & Engineers Inc.

DISASTER PREVENTION AND EDUCATION CENTER

The rich culture of Turkey includes a monument to human achievement, invention, and practicality – a site called Cappadocia.  More than two thousand years ago, the people of the region sought a strong, permanent and imposing shelter.   Inspired by the natural geological formations in the region which withstood all natural onslaughts, the people carved and “engineered” homes and public spaces within those natural rock formations.  They did this with such skill and esthetics that it still echoes today with vibrancy and life.

Incheon Tower in South Korea by François Blanciak Architect

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Article source: François Blanciak Architect

In order to avoid the bilboquet form inherent to most observation structures of this height, the proposed building is conceived as a continuous segment whose middle part is made thicker by a knot. The resulting symbolic shape expresses the idea that the total length of the tower is in fact even longer than the regulated maximum height of 450 meters which it reaches at its summit. Alternately, the space created by the knot shape turns out to conveniently provide viewers with a three-dimensional panoramic experience of the city of Incheon, as a continuous indoor and outdoor balcony.

Garden School in Beijing, China by OPEN Architecture

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Article source: OPEN Architecture

If there is one thing that we have to put above all other issues for the 21st century, that is probably the vulnerability of nature. Ancient Chinese philosophy had always centered on the harmony between people and nature. In the decades to come, and amidst all the looming environmental crisis, it is urgent to bring the ancient philosophy back to the core of our education, and put it in the context of new challenges ahead. With this in mind, OPEN has designed a new kind of school system that provides a balanced and joyful learning environment integrated with farms and gardens.

Museum of the Wine in Almendralejo, Spain by GAP Arquitectos

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Article source: GAP Arquitectos

The project of the Museum of the Wine in Almendralejo (Badajoz) poses and assumes the duality that exists in the process of elaboration of the wine. Science and art, system and chance, technical and inspiration are the opposites that build, in a mysterious, magic, almost miraculous way, a fine wine.

Social Services Center in Madrid, Spain by dosmasunoarquitectos

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Article source: dosmasunoarquitectos

The programme of the new local Social Services Center in Móstoles is strongly conditioned by two facts: on the one hand, it hosts many identical spaces –single, unipersonal offices- and it is placed within a new, aseptic urban fabric –currently being developed- which features no constraints but the street network and the plot orientation. On the other hand, the building’s relationship with its close and distant surroundings is based upon environmental respect, achieved –in this case- by means of traditional procedures, instead of throughout advanced technological systems.

How to build an energy-efficient designer villa for $ 800 for sq m? «Mirror Mongayt» villa solves this problem.

The front south facade is designed for a specific period of time as an art installation in a form of a temporary structure. Every eight years the house clears the skin. Changing of the facade is a landmark event, a family tradition and a newsbreak. The first facade – mirror pixels reflecting the sky and the forest and dissolving the house in the environment.

Microrifugio alpino – Wardrobe in the landscape in Madesimo, Italy by Enrico Scaramellini Architetto

Friday, May 4th, 2012

Article source: Enrico Scaramellini Architetto

The project is based on two specific conditions: – on one side the client’s needs, looking for a small and intimate space; – on the other a small, special and precious place. The alpine landscape dominates the place: it becomes evident the condition of a privileged and unique space.

The concept of size guides the project. Great is the land, the landscape: small is the place, the space. There is a mutual relationship that inspires the design process. What is the role of the “room” in relation to the landscape? How the landscape reflects, “adopts” the room? The point of view changes in a frenzied search for balance.
